| I lost my 7 iron a couple of years ago and the pro at my club called
one of those club finder services and they wanted $85 for a
replacement. He then suggested I go to Old Sport and I found a perfect
match for $15. They have about 5,000 used clubs, mostly blades with
steel shafts and wooden woods as well as sets on consignment.
I stop by there occasionally if you want to give me the particulars on
your Wilson Staff wedge. If they can't match it they can come close
and probably save you some money.

Does the wedge have to be a Wilson staff ? Most professionals
these days use several different makes of wedge. There are three
wedges which are very good. The original Tom Watson sand saver,
a Confidence 56 degree and the new Anvil wedge endorsed by gary
Player.
The wedge is such a shot-making-feel club, it may be worthwhile
getting one that suits your game, rather than one which matches
your other irons. FWIW.

| The Anvil wedge is very soft and will it not wear out if you use
a 2 piece ball.
The club has been designed for balata spin men.
The Ping wedge is quite good, you can hit it anywhere on
the club and it goes almost the same distance.
Do you remember Sandy Andy, a Wilson Wedge popular in the 70,s
good for getting out of bushes and ditches and things.

| I remember the Sandy Andy. I lent it to a friend just before his whole
set got stolen out of his car. I used to hit some magical shots woit
that club. Great utility club.

| You can still get a second hand Sandy Andy, they were forged and
chromed.
Rich what sort of great shots did you hit, i used one for a while
it could rip a bush out easy , if you caught it thin it went
further than a 1 iron.
Tell me what shots you played blasts out of sand eh!!
How about a Triple Wedge by Simmons , any feedback on that beast
never used one but an interesting tool.

Believe it or not, I came within one inch of holing it from the sand
with my very first shot with the sandy andy. After that bunker shots
were easy. I also used it in the heavy rough around the green, I would
take it away by breaking my wrists and picking it (almost) straight up
and then let it (the clubhead) drop right on the ball and it would just
pop right out and stop next to the hole. Just do it and don't think
about it.

I believe that Wilson is currently making many of the "traditional"
Staff patterns. I was in the pro shop at Stow Acres this afternoon,
and there were about 6 or 8 different Wilson Staff wedges, including
one that claims that it's the exact same pattern and grind used by
Gene Sarazen in 1934 (or some such).
