| | I'd suggest Equinox, in Manchester, Vermont. Phone # used to be
    (802) 362-3223 at the Golf Shop. If you stay at The Equinox - a 2 min.
walk, just up the street, you get preferred times and a reduced rate.
The Equinox is pricey, but FABULOUS. The course is beautiful, and there
is a lot to do in the area. Course should be in perfect shape right
    now.

| | I suggest the Queechee Club in Quechee, Vt. It has two incredible golf courses,
and is located a few mile from Woodstock, which has great restaurants, and
shopping, etc. It take about two hours plus to get ther from Boston. Its also
up in the mountains with beautiful views all around.

| | Sable Oaks in South Portland. Though it has no water amenities it is
on the grounds of the Mariot Hotel, and there is plenty of coast line,
shopping, seafood etc... Your are correct about the Samoset, and Rt. 1
traffic will be a killer this coming Labor Day!!! Arrrgghhh. And so
    will I95 for that matter.

| 1585.4 | Equinox or Mt. Washington | MR4DEC::DIAZ | Octavio, SME International | Wed Sep 02 1992 14:09 | 22 |
| | Gee, there are so many places, but for a balance of class and golf,
I'll probably go with Jack. The Equinox was just refurbished and is
a beautiful Inn. And if your husband wants another good course,
Stratton is less than 20/30 minutes away. Manchester should be about
    2 hours away.

Another option, but a little further (3 to 3 hours away) is Mount
Washington Inn and resort in Bretton Woods, NH. The building,
although not as well kept as the Equinox is a wonderful sight and the
view from the Inn to the valley is fantastic. The golf course is a
1915 (Ross?) links type course, unfortunately I haven't played it.
Another advantage of Mt. Washington is that it has all kind of other
activities, tennis, swimming, horses, night entretainment, etc.
while the Equinox is in the middle of Manchester (but does have
swimming pool). Also Jack O'lantern course in Lincoln/Woodstock is
    not too far away.

Watch out, you can spend tons of $$$ in Manchester in all the outlets
    stores!!!

Another suggestion worth considering is Sugarbush Vermont. 2.5 hours
from where you are up 91 to 89. The Sugarbush Inn is a beautiful
Vermont Inn, the Sugarbush Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones Sr.
course, with some of the most beautiful and challenging golf around.
