Oh, and if Vin Scully mentions that stupid quote about "<insert either
Nicklaus or Daly> playing a game with which I am unfamiliar" AGAIN,
    I'll, er..I'll aarrgh...ugh....probably wince and continue watching....

    Hi Rick,

Yeah the skins game was fun to watch... Daly kept taking skins
from Payne, then Payne made a nice birdie putt to steal from
Daly. Jack and Curtis looked out of place, not being part of
most of the holes... but when Daly gets it going (did you see
him pump up the golf shoes when he wanted a big hit? one time
    	knocking it 340+ !!!) he's very intimidating.

It's real tough when you are hitting a 2 iron, and you know it's
gotta be close... because Daly is going to stick a 6 iron.

I just watched a tourny last night ... Daly shot a final round
79 ! Knocking two balls OB on the 2nd hole. If the course design
allows for some misses off the tee, he's got a big advantage...
cause even if he doesn't hit the fairway, he's usually only "at
the most" a middle iron away. So he can recover easier.

But add some OB's? And he can really struggle. That is until he
learns to back off, and hit a 1 iron 290 and layup :) !!

    	Walta

celebrity ice-skating show and Star Search! Arrgghh!

    hi Tom,

    	I think it was

    		Payne $260,000

    		John $160,000

    		Curtis $40,000

    		Jack	$00,000

| | John Daly not only pumped up his Reebok's, he pumped up his pocket
    book in the process.

I read where JD was paid $50K to pump his shoes (ala Dee Brown) on
national TV. The folks at Reebok must have D_E_E_P pockets. I figure it
won't be long before Deane Beamon and his merry men file suit against
Reebok and declare the shoes in violation for having an adjustable
    bladder.

    	Tom,
That is terrible; Rick did you manage to catch it on ch 9
from Manchester? I was on house duty per the wife but was able to
catch it on saturday and see Daly push the 6th or 7th with Payne.

    	Rick,
"wristy putting" will do you in come your 30s. Is this
something you read somewhere? I find this hard to believe ...(___)*

Curtis actually won 140000. That's because the skins on the last
few holes are worth a heck of a lot more than the first nine or so.
Don't let the winnings fool you. Daly dominated, intimidated and
    frustrated the others.

re: bill I think it was the NH station. Have cable and with the
remote, all the stations become a blur.

Yeah the wristy stroke did me in, also has done in a number of pros
in their later years. Just about the time Daly's putting stroke should
go, his swing should start to get shorter too. I just can't see him
continue to make that kind of turn and go that far beyond parallel when
    he is in his 30's.

The whole skins game is one huge promotion. It's no accident that
the cameras make sure you see the sponsors' tee markers, or a close up
of Jack's ball and club at address show us he's playing Jack Nicklaus
	irons, etc.
I watched some of it, but Vin Scully's incessant yammering about
what a tremendous shot that was, and how much this hole is worth,
( on a routine 8 iron landing 25 ft from the pin ) made it unbearable.
I'd pay a lot to see a Tuesday practice round, when their own money
is on the line, with no Vin or Charlie Jones or other network
hack who never picked up a club in his life unable to shut up for
	30 seconds...

| | You'd think 30's was old or something! I can't see Daly loosing the
flexibility he has till well past 30! These guys hit their prime after
    30!

I am 35 and still have as much turn as the 25 year old Gumby's I see.
(However, the 15 year olds have more turn....)

And... I am NOT a fitness buff!

I liked one of the interviews with Daly. He talked about having to
find someone to teach him course management and how not to be
    impatient.

Looks like he's ready to make the next step!

Daly also won three cars and gave his Mom the Lexus. Strange won two
cars. More importantly, Daly won the hearts of many golf fans
including some who were and are skeptical of his swing mechanics.
Remains to be seen, but another large long hitter came on the scene
some 20 years ago and took a beating for unseating the "King". For me,
I find that I agree with most of the pros (except for people like
Strange) who find DAly's presence a real value to the golf circuit and
a breath of fresh air. I would much rather watch him blast away than
watch most of the others push it down the middle. Since Daly has won a
major early, he may not feel the heat that Greg Norman has felt as he
played in the shadow of Nicklaus.

I also find his attitude refreshing...he readily admits that he is as
surprised as everyone else to be here. He is a "golfer from the
    country" not the "country club".

As to the incessant babbling by Scully...I agree. He more than once
stepped on a conversation being picked up by the miked players. In
fact, one was between Nickalus and Daly(also the most intersting human
interest story...since Nicklaus is Daly's idol and Jack is not known
for his outgoing manner when playing/competing)...Nicklaus asks Daly
what he is doing during the winter and Daly responds" well next week I
am playing for a million ..." then Scully interupts and we don't get to
hear the rest. I would have been more interested in the on course
banter picked up by the Mike's than Scully's babble.

As for the sponsor stuff, I think it is great. Wish Digital would buy
a few tee markers like Andersen Consulting did.

I can't wait for the TOC in early January here in SoCal so I can go
watch Daly hit as well as Woosie, Faldo and the others.

Your kidding about Daly not being able to putt when he's 30...
right? These guys are professional players, constantly playing
and practicing.. adjusting... that's what they do for a LIVING!

I thought Payne played best. It was Payne who stopped Daly on
a couple of holes... or the other way around, depending on how
you saw it. My point is that most holes were tied by Payne and
Daly... and Payne won about 100k more than Daly.

Great match to watch. BTW... how are the players chosen to
participate? Jack gets to play the seniors next!
