| | To play in the Classic he must qaulify or be an exempt player.

Since you are asking the question I suspect he needs to qualify. To
obtain the application please have him contact the tournament office at
508-371-0116. He must be at least 50 years of age and pay the qualifing
fee which is a couple of hundred dollars (I am not exactly sure since
the tour just changed the amount). Then he will have to play in the
qualifing round on monday prior to the tournament. Last year the
qualifing score was around 72-74. There were about 30-40 people
attempting to qualify for 4 spots.

| | I don't believe my question was answered. The "new" shirts we got last

| | You will need to buy a NEW Shirt this year. Also blue slacks, NO Jeans
are required, if you have a pair of navy blue slacks that is good enuff
and you don't need to buy the ones they have. Now the reason for the
new shirts is that even though it was stated that last years shirt
would be good for 2 or 3 years it was decided by the committee after
many complaints that the shirt was UGLY, therfore a new one was
selected for this year and hopefully will be used for the next 1 or 2
    more.

Jerry you are 100% correct. The shirt that was used last year was
manufactured by Head. Head discontinued that style of shirt so
new volunteers would not be able to get them thus the new shirt this
    year.

Roy, our tournament clothing is NOT liscensed by the PGA tour. If you look
at last years shirt you will notice that it does not have the tour logo
anywhere on it. The PGA tour receives NO money from the uniform cost.

Jerry,
I know you are just the middle man. Perhaps they should consider buying a two
year's supply and store the leftovers for one year. It would involve a little
more cash out of the tournament's pocket up front, BUT... the volunteers are
basically free labor. It would be a little thing to keep them happy.
The concession to navy pants was a good step in that direction. Before that
we had to cough up $$ for ugly mauve pants, that I wouldn't be caught dead in
except at the tournament.

Rte. 2. Off Rte. 2 take the Rte. 117 exit, follow country road (past
Verrill Farm) to set of lights. Go straight through lights (after
honoring the red light, of course!!!). The lights are about 3/10ths
of a mile from the main driveway to Nashawtuc.

It says that we will be parking along the 15th fairway. That's good. One year
I was a marshall on 15. Keeping people from wandering across the fairway was a
real pain. Especially because they couldn't see the tee so they were at risk!
At least the vols will be there earlier.
Does anyone have the data/time for the volunteer meetings handy? I want to

| | RE: The uniform issue.

The main reason I decided not to volunteer this year (after 5 years)
was because I am tired of shelling out money year after year for the
priviledge of being a volunteer. I never heard of people being charged
for volunteering. Why don't they provide uniforms free of charge in
return for our time? If they had to pay us an hourly wage it would add
up to more than their cost for the shirts.

Better yet, why doesn't DEC pay for the uniforms? I was really ticked
last year when I paid almost $50 to participate and then heard that
Emerson Hospital paid for the uniforms for hospital employees that
    volunteered.

Also after the parking fiasco last year, what with having to wait an
hour and fifteen minutes to get a ride to our cars, I'm surprised that
    anybody volunteered this year.

I think I'll just buy a ticket (or get a freebee from a volunteer!)
this year. Even if I have to pay to park, I'll still be 20 bucks ahead
and I won't have to put up with the egos that surface each year ("I
wanna be the person with the walkee-talkee 'cause it makes me look
important and besides you obviously aren't bright enough, I was here
first, and I sucked up to the guy who assigns the jobs, so get out
there and hold that rope all day, buddy, then we'll give you a 6-day
old hamburger or some raw chicken for your trouble).

Can you tell I've had it?

| | For many of those same reasons, I have never volunteered. I have played
the game for 18 years, have been to the GHO at least 6 different years and
constantly watch the pros on TV. I think I could do a very good job at a number
of different positions that are needed. Too bad it cost me $50+ for uniforms
each year, and even though I would be paid for the day, in my job, I would have
to make up the time somehow, so I really don't get paid for it. From the many
stories I've heard, it's basically a thankless job!!!
Instead, I've sent away for the 5 FREE tickets that Corp. Employee
Activities has said each employee can have. It's naturally on a 1st come, 1st
serve basis. I really respect all of those who do volunteer and give their
time and money, so DEC can be called the sponser of this tournament. You
should all be compensated in some better way than in the past.

Thanks, volunteering does have it's benefits...it's the best seat in the house
(at least from the marshall's perspective/even if you are considerate and kneel
to let those behind you see)...one year I had a wonderful conversation with
Bob Toski...you get to see pro's at their best and their worst...(I especially
love watching how they recover from a really bad shot)
Besides if it wasn't for us volunteers, there wouldn't be a tournament for
you to go to, over for Digital to get the exposure....Yeah, I do wish they
would give away/subsidize/keep for more than one year the shirts, let us play
around at Nashawtuc for free, etc. but it's still fun!

| | i don't think volunteers should be compensated any more than they are.
    volunteering usually denotes 'no compensation'.
you get time off work, a chance to chat with pro golfers (some
legendary), a change to chat with local celebrities (i've had nice
chats with bob lobel, the guy who owns reebok, paul szep, etc.).
if they gave shirts/uniforms to all volunteers, they would
have a thousand volunteers receive shirts and only 300 actually
    work.
it is the best seat in the house. volunteers get preferred parking
(if they show up early enough).

as previous messase said, 'if we didn't volunteer there wouldn't
be a tournament for digitial to give you free tickets to attend.

| | I gotta agree about volunteering. It's something you do freely,
without a gun to your head because you enjoy it or believe that what
you're doing is important. It can also be a colossal pain in the A&#.
I've done it for a USGA event at our club and for other events, but
because I wanted to. I don't even go to the Seniors tourney because I
don't like the course, the place is a zoo and I don't think DEC gets
enough out of it for what we put into it. I've always thought we should
spend the same dough on targeting some large customers and having a
Corporate Outing with Peter Jacobsen or someone like that who is
legendary in doing that type of thing. The only measurements I've seen
are press clippings. I know I'm missing a chance to see good players,
but this tournament just doesn't interest me.

Hey, don't get me wrong - I salute those who do volunteer. They work
hard to make things happen. But - it ain't gonna be me. Too much
politics, and the tournament just isn't that great.

The pairings can be found in that mornings paper. The last group will finish
4 hours after they tee off. (Those seniors move right along.) I'm not sure
about the first tee time, I do know that marshall's for the first 3 holes are
supposed to be there by 7:00. I would guess the first group will tee off

| | Well as we all know by now, Rocky Thompson was the winner in less
than desirable conditions...... Glad to see him win as it was only his
2nd victory in all his years on the pro tour. He won at Syracuse
earlier this year, but never won during his years on the regular tour.
I walked with him on Friday keeping the stats/scores. He hit a few
monster drives, but made three sand saves for pars. Beard and Dalziel
were his partners that day. Rocky wasn't very talkative, but Frank
    and Doug were very pleasant.
On Saturday I was out with the "nasty" bunch. Bruce "Stoneface"
Crampton, Simon Hobday and a real nice guy, Al Geiberger. Simon had a
couple of bad holes and was NOT a happy person, turning the air blue...
Other than that, he nor Bruce said a word. Geiberger had a good round
turning in a 69 to get into 2nd place. He would have had the lead but
he hit OB on his tee shot on 18 and came in with a 6.
Sunday I was with Harold Henning, Jim O'Hern and Joe Jimenez. Joe
is a super senior(60+) and is not very big, about 5'6", 150 lbs but can
crush the ball. On #7, driving distance hole, he hit 302 yards
outdriving Jim Dent. On #18 the other driving hole, he was the longest
in the group at 262 yards. There were longer drives before the heavier
    rains came.
Any other worker stories out there?

| | RE: Long drives
I don't know if I miss something, but I was a marshall Friday (beautiful
day!) and Sunday (ugly weather...) at the 403 yards dog-leg left 11th,
and I very few drives were hitting past the 175 marker (= 220/230 yd drives)
Don't get me wrong, I wish I could hit the ball myself, been 10/20 years
younger the way these guys do, but I was more impressed with their
approach shots to the green.

| | Tavo,	On the 11th most of the guys were hitting a 3 wood
off the tee. On the driving holes, they let everything out. The
driving distance holes were 7 and 1 I agree, I wish I col;d hit the
ball like them. They're very upset if they hit the wrong side of the
green, I'm just happy to hit it. :^)

| | Does anyone have the dates for this year's Digital Seniors handy. I know it's
in July, but don't have the precise dates at my finger tips. I'm just trying
to plan my vacation & don't want to be out of town at the wrong time!
