Please explain the quoted odds. Is each number adjacent to the
golfer's name, the odds against a single bet? So that for a $1(U.S.)
bet the return is $50(U.S.) when Jack N. wins? Also could you please
explain "...an each way bet...". Thanks for helping.

I'll still go with 10000-1, the twin trifecta:

                           JiM Hallet

RE.1 Yes, a $1 bet on Big Jack would return $50 which is why an each
way bet is a good idea.
ie.$1 each way is $1 on the win at 50-1 and $1 on a place in the 1st
4 giving 1/4 odds. Not a bad bet at 12.5-1 to come in the 1st 4.
This means that you pass over $2 MAC.

RE.2 ANG. Is'nt Jim Hallet the guy that wears the Funny Cowboy style hat?
No-one wins majors wearing a funny hat!
(Whoops-Ben Hogan may argue that point!)
         I think i'd have a $1 at 10000-1!

Can anyone support me in Phil Mickleson as an outside bet?

| | My money is going on an outsider. Mr Sourface himself - Mark
Calcavachia- . He has got to be the most miserable player ever to set
foot on a course. What a difference from Lee Trevino. By the way my
money is also going on in respect to both his golf and I really come up
trumps if the guy breaks into a smile- the odds I've been quoted are
    350-1.

I tried to scan the list for a smattering of European players then I
remebered this is after all the US Open, and you have to walk across
the Atlantic to qualify. A feat some of our tour are well able to do.

| | With odds like those, I'd bet on Andrade (2 wins in a row and hot), Kite
who keeps the ball in play and Mize, who also hits out of the short grass a lot
and can get streaky. I'd also put something on Faldo.

Hit's the ball straight and always comes with a late finish.

nothing would please him more than winning the U.S. Open.
    Love that guy.

| | OK, here I come with my eternal favourite: SEVERIANO

Boy, is he back!!! Two major championships in a row in Europe,
British PGA and Masters, and a very good showing this weekend at the
Buick Tourney, better than any other european player who came for the
    US Open.

He was interviewed after his last round and all he said on why he was
back was because he was making his putts.

He will definitely be in contention this Sunday.

    My national bet: Pavin

player even though he didn't win the NCAA's. (4th or 5th i believe).

Hazeltine. Whilst Seve's been playing great, he sprays it about too
much I feel. Bernhard's got a good chance though.

| | I was pleased to see Payne back in action. The guy has such a great
swing. Beautiful tempo and so smooth. Both of these guys have great
    swings.

It was great to see Jerry Pate back in action even though he didn't
make the cut. Talk about great swings. I'd put him right up there
with the great swings in golf. So smooth and classic. Too bad he had
injury problems throughout his career. Here's a guy that could've made
a fortune on the tour if he had remained healthy. Too bad, a nice guy
too. He had a personality also which a lot of these flat-stomachs
    don't.

Hopefully we'll be seeing more of Mr. Pate in the future.

    Jeff
