| 712.1 | An eagle?  That's nice but... | COMET::PINAR |  | Wed Aug 09 1989 18:55 | 14 |

It's the hole in one that's "more difficult." Simply because
it's more "coveted." However, I can relate. I've made two
eagles from excess of 200 yards in my life (one with a 3 iron
a few years ago and one with a 2 iron earlier this year and
also one with a wedge this year), but nobody really gives
a sh*t about those...it's the hole in one's that you can brag
about! I know I won't be happy until I get a *1* on the card!

                                               B.P.
(whos had a lot of 2's but nobody cares!)

The first hole was playing easy on Saturday. A member of the group
behind us also put one in on the fly. He must have made the hole
larger for you since they teed off @ 5:49 ;-)

| | I know I've mentioned this before, but I even had a double Eagle
2, on a par five, about 7 years ago, at Southampton CC in, you guessed
it, Southampton, Mass., and was told they only report hole-in-ones
to the paper!!! I hit a driver and then a 6 iron that rolled into
the cup. The hole is listed at 475 yards, but with the tees up
it can't play more than 440 yards, and it's a dogleg right that
you can cut the corner with, making it play no more than 410 yards
with a real good tee shot. I had 2 witnesses, but it didn't matter
to the people at the pro-shop.

| | This kind of eagle seems harder to me than a hole in one, because
you can't peg it up, and you can't roll it over.

I think the eagle ( ahole in one is actually an eagle ) on a par
four or a double eagle on a par five (i've had two) are more exciting.
Our par five is under 500 yards. I have double eagled the hole
twice, once with a driver and three wood and the other with driver
and a four wood. Since I stroke on that hole, they were net one's!

| | I made a mistake. It was me behind you. We usually tee off @6:30
but our gold card holder forgot to call in our usual tee time and
consequently had to play earlier that day.

Funny, I too forgot to call for our usual 6:21 tee time on Monday & ended
up with 5:41. Unfortuantely my early tee time didn't come with an eagle
included. However I did make two birdies is that the same?

Yeah the early 5:41 is the one where you play in under 4 hours &
get home in time to be part of the family. The other 5:41 is the one
that takes you 5+ hours, it's dark when you get home, the family is
asleep, and the lights are out. ;-)
Occassionally at 5:41 you run into young bachelor golfers how want to
get in a quick round on their way home.

This is a note which is a reply to 712.1

    > "I won't be happy until I get a *1* on the card!"

Well, I'm happy! I got my first ace today. I hit a 9 iron on
a 162 yarder. (actual distance was probably around 155 yards).

| 712.11 | GOT LUCKY | COMET::DVORAK |  | Wed Nov 07 1990 10:14 | 7 |
| | Earlier this year, playing an uphill, par 5, 487 yards. Driver, topped
the 3 wood, then half-skulled a 7 iron. Just knew it was going to roll
across the green into a trap. Well looked all over and finally found
    the ball in the cup.

Absolutely proved that golf is definitely NOT all skill.
