| | Hi,
I got to the Seniors very early last Saturday to watch/follow
    Bob Goalby.
He had a great work out before he teed it up at 8:30.
First he putted from a close in range and then lagged guite a few
    putts.
Next he moved to the practice range and warmed up by swinging and
    stretching with three clubs.
He started out hitting wedges and hit about 12 and then moved to
his 3Wood. After hitting about 24 3Woods, he began hitting the driver.
At the end of hitting about 12 Drivers, he started hiting a few
shots with each iron in his bag from the wedge thru his #1 iron.
He then moved to the tee and was ready for his "first" drive!
Remember, this is a golfer that plays daily and has played for over
40 years. His warmup was very representative of all the Seniors
and it seemed to "warm them up".

Wish we had that amount of time!

I'm going to assume that most golfers, like myself, get to the course
and only allow enough time for some putting and chipping. The course I
play dosen't have a range so hitting drives or irons is not something I
can do. So this is how I get ready.

First I will hit several chip shots and putt them out and work on
getting up and down but we all usually do that. The big problem is
getting ready for the first three holes. I think mental preperation
is very important. I will swing a couple of clubs to loosen up and do
some basic stretching but not much more. The one thing I do do that has
really helped is mentally bare down on those first couple of holes. I
tell myself not to be concerned with distance off the first tee as a
matter of fact the less I think about distance off the tee the better I
hit the ball all the way around. The last two things I think about on
the first swing is , swing slow and look for the tee after you hit the
ball. This really helps me keep the old noodle down. hey sometimes I
don't hit it like I would like to off the first tee but the mistakes
are not big ones. I also over club on the first two holes which
promotes a slow swing and rythem. Getting off the first hole is very
important to me. If I triple or double the first hole I really fell
behind the eight ball and it puts to much pressure on making up the
    strokes.

    p. s. A real hot shower will also help loosen those old muscles.

    HAPPY TRAILS
