| 499.5 | The World's Longest Hole in One. | OMDEMO::SCHULZ | Tue Jan 24 1989 00:19 | 27 | |
| I know it seems unbelievable..but the worlds longest hole in one
is at a course I worked at in High School; Miracle Hill Golf Course
in Omaha, NE. THe hole is a straight away 454 par 4, it does go
slightly downhill after 300 yds, thus a huge hitter down wind may
be able to get it to the downslope; however, no group since the
65 group that made the hole in one has reached the green

On that day in 1965, the gentleman who made the hole in one was
carrying a mean 2 handicap. another player in the group was a 1
and an extreemly long hitter. the final player was also a long hitter,
yet not huge. There was a drought that year and the usually deep
plush fairway was rock hard. Also, on that day an unusual 50 m.p.h.
gusting wind was out of the west. The story is that one gentleman
was on the collar short, another on the collar long, and the last
    in the hole.

The funny thing about the hole thing is that the day was a stormy
day and most people who are sane would not be out their. In years
to come, when ever a strange west wind would appear, dozens of people
would try and see how far they could go on that hole. Yet not one
    could even come close.

I don't think that fatefull shot will ever be matched, at least
not on that crazy long straightwaya hole. But, stranger thing end
    up on stranger circumstances!

| 499.7 | Top All Time money winners through 89... | MSEE::KELLEY | Golfoholic - club maker | Wed Jan 17 1990 10:18 | 25 |

Top ALL TIME money winners through the 89 season...

    	1. Tom Kite 5 million plus
    	2. Tom Watson 5 million plus
    	3. Jack Nicklaus	5 million plus
    	4. Curtis Strange	5 million plus
    	5. Ben Crenshaw 4 million plus
    	6. Lanny Wadkins	just under 4 million

I think we will see Ben and Lanny drop down a few notches after this
season though and Strange will pass Nicklaus... Nicklaus would be
out of reach had the purses been what they are today, when he was
on top...! He has 70 top ten finishes in the majors, second is
Snead (I think) with 40 something (no that isn't a new TV show ;-)).

I think Strange started on the tour in 1977, Watson about 1970ish,
Kite in 1972, Wadkins in about 1972, Crenshaw in 1973, and Jack
    	back in 1960ish.

This info is from the February issue of Golf Digest which I was
reading last night, but do not have in front of me now. Please
excuse any errors and feel feel to correct them...

After reading note three I was amazed to here that someone has scored a whole
in one over such a big distance. But could some one tell me what the furthest
distance a standard golf ball ever been hit on a course or otherwise.
Thanks in advance.
Kieran.
