I FEEL THATS A GOOD INDICATION THAT YOUR GAME AND SWING ARE COMING
INTO THERE OWN. MOST GOLF INSTRUCTORS AND PRO'S RECOMMEND HI
HANDICAPPERS STAY CLEAR OF LOW IRON (2,3,4,). MY GAME IS GETTING
TO THE POINT NOW THAT I WILL USE MY 2 IRON INSTEAD OF MY 3 WOOD.
LIKE YOU HAVE SAID, A SOLIDLY HIT LONG IRON SHOT IS ONE MOST REWARDING
    GOLF SHOTS THERE IS.

I had gall bladder problems & finally surgery on the Monday of the
playoff (I found later !) of the U.S. Open. Boy! Talk about your
swing leaving you after the surgery! 8 weeks after surgery my doctors
finally let my start playing golf. I thought that I had problems
    before I had surgery!!

You should have seen my swing!

But through all of my problems trying to find my swing after the
surgery; my short game woke up and picked up the slack.

I am normally a 8 to 11 handicap player with normally 31 to 33 putts
    a round on a normal year during the 3 months following surgery;
    I averaged 27 putts a round with a low round of 23!!!

My chipping and putting were sterling !!
I can attribute their success to putting and chipping on the living
room rug while I was going stir crazy after the surgery.

It is now December in Chicago, Ill. and the last time that I played
was 12/3 (Temp was in the 40's with wet thawing greens) and I shot
79 with 29 putts. I was making the swings of the season just prior
to the recent 1 to 2 inch snowfalls that we have had over the last
2 weekends. Temperatures the last two days have been in 50's and
I'm hope the weather holds together for later this week. Maybe
I'll get 1 more round in before the new year !!!

    Merry Christmas !!

What di you say your Doctor's name was? Does he guarantee improvements
in your short game? Let's see ... If I have my gall bladder out the
beginning of January, eight weeks makes March, just in time for the
resumption of the NE golf season.... ;-)

I had a similar experience with my game after some medical work.
Three years ago I was playing to a 15-18 handicap with a fade/slice
that just wouldn't quit. Then I went into the hospital for back
surgery, had a disk removed. Three weeks later, my doctor thought
this was a minor miracle, I was playing golf as I had 2 weeks of
disability left and couldn't let it go to waste!! Anyways I was
playing the best golf of my life, everything was straight and long
and had just a slight hint of a fade. Seems I was so concerned
about proper mechanics after the surgery that I was extra careful
with stance and body position at adress. Also I made sure I made
a proper turn so as not to put undo stress on my back, and I just
took a nice firm swing at the ball, no gorilla swings. The results
were amazing. Since then I have been in single digits and have gotten
my handicap down to 5 this year. Just goes to show proper mechanics
do work, I just had a real good incentive to use them!!!

    Fairways and greens...Mike

| | If you want to come to Chicago, his name is Dr. Igini.

But seriously, All of the practice has helped me tremendiously!

I did get out and play today (12/23) and I shot a 77!

I shot level par (35) on the front side aided by my first eagle
in 4 years (? it's been a long time since the last one). The
42 on the back (par 37) was a major difference in play from
the front side. As good as I hit the ball of the tee in the
front, the driver left me until the 18th hole.

The short game was unbelievable ! I had 12 putts in the front
and 14 putts on the back. The putter is not the only part of
the short game that has come alive. The little bump and run
shots and the little pitch shots are ending up in the under
6 feet range which gives me more opportunties to scramble for
    	pars.

I had better stop now before the golf gods hear me bragging
and put a hex on my short game for 1989.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
