| May be a little farther north than you want to go, but the Balsums
Hotel has an exceleent 18 hole course. Drove up this summer to play
it and will probably make it an annual. Very good course.

| Don't know how far it may be, but I've heard that Eastmans in
Grantham is a nice course. It's up a ways on 89, over near Lebanon.

We played Eastman Golf Links in Grantham last weekend and is a
beautiful course, one of the best I've played. Well designed, with
fairways that are challenging but not frustrating, and the greens in
great shape. It is what I would describe as mountain course, with
many downhill and uphill shots.
It's a 73 (37-36) par course for women and 5369 yards long (71, 6338
yards from white, 6731 from blue, for men). I have the score card in
front of me. (It has no phone number). I don't remember the course
handicap, but the slope is in the 130's.
The course is surrounded by vacation houses. The play was slow since
most people we saw playing last Saturday were probably retired
couples who own those houses. It was busy. We couldn't get a tee
time until 1:40 PM, then they had no carts (which you have to rent)
so we teed off about 1/2 hour late and almost didn't make it before
dark, so call in advance. It was $25 for green fees and $22 for the
cart on weekends. Don't know on weekdays.
The course is off route 10. We where staying in Sunapee and was
about 30 minutes away.

Bethleham NH near littleton NH off rt302 (15 minutes for the notch)
has a championship par 72 with a PAR 6 in there 610 yrds. I play
there there every summer and enjoy the scenery.

| Can anyone give me info on Waterville Valley (golf course, that
is)? My wife and I are thinking of going up there and I was wondering
if anybody in notes-land has played there. What are the fees? How
crowded does it get , etc, etc, etc.

| Hi Steve
My husband and I went up to Waterville Valley last weekend to celebrate
our second anniversery (we met on the ski slopes at Waterville).
The resort itself is beautiful. We stayed at the Snowy Owl Inn
which is very nice and in walking distance of the golf course.
We got a package for $135.00 which included 2 nights lodging, Sunday
brunch and continental breakfast on Saturday. Also included use
to their large sports/recreation center. If you go up mid-week
it includes unlimited golf, also any month except for July and August
you get free unlimited golf.
The golf course is in good condition. Beautiful surroundings.
Right in the mountains. We had absolutely perfect weather. Not
crowded at all. Never had to wait. They don't pair you up with
anyone either which is nice if you are celebrating a anniversery
or just want to get away together to be alone. The course is only
9 holes. $16.00 on the weekends for 18 holes. Fairly short course.
For 18 holes it is 4814 from the whites and 4482 from the reds.
Par 68 for women and 64 for men.
The following day we went up to Jack-O-Lantern in Woodstock NH which
is only 2 exits up from Waterville. Jack-O-Lantern is on exit
30 and is RIGHT off the exit. About 15 mintues from Waterville
(max). Jack-O-Lantern is a Beautiful 18 hole course. In excellent
shape. $20.00. Fairly long. Somewhere around 6100 yards. I
liked it much better than Amhearst country club and would love to
go back this year. The only other course that I found compares
is Bretwood in Keene, NH (I haven't played any private courses though).
It wasn't too crowded.

I remember a course in Conway or North Conway that is very close
to the Conway Railroad. I believe it was called the Country Club of New
Hampshire. It looked pretty nice and was a par 72.
If I remember correctly, it was about 1 hour north of Waterville
Valley. You might want to check it out. Seems to me that I picked up
the card. If I can dig it up, I will post some information on it.

| .9 That would be North Conway Country Club. It is a very good
course. Par is 71 and it is 6705 from the blues, 6335 from the
whites. (I have the card in front of me). Country Club of N.H.
is somewhere in the Lake Sunapee Region.

N.C.C.C - We've played there several times. Really like the course.
We've found that Sunday afternoons (2 or 3 pm) is a good time to
play - no crowds (you can actually play 9 in less than 2 hours).
I guess the weekend crowd is on their way home...

My wife and I have gone to the Wentworth Resort Hotel a few times,
the last time being ~2 years ago. I remember they had a nice golf package.
The course was fairly easy and the condition wasn't all that great. The
scenery was fantastic. The rooms were traditional victorian. The food was
excellent, but I understand the matre'd left last summer.

| Went up to the Balsams this weekend. What a golf course. The Panorama
Golf Course is a beautiful 18 hole championship course. It's in very
good shape for this time of the year. It's a VERY hilly course.
The 18th hole is supposed to be the hardest hole in the state of N.H.
Par - 72
Blue Tees - 6804 Rating 74.5
White Tees- 6097 71.4
Red Tees - 5069 71.1
The scenery is out of this world. You can see Quebec in the distance.
Weather was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky and in the 70's for 3
days. The resort is unreal if you plan to stay over. Supposedly,
the only 4-star resort hotel in New England (according to AAA and
another rating system). The hotel was built around 1830.
I believe that it is included on the Cancer Society Card. If you get
a chance, play it. You won't regret it.
3.5 hours from Nashua, NH. About 180 miles.
