| 27.2 | Any Handicaps? | BPOV09::FARWELL | BOB | Thu Mar 05 1987 13:50 | 12 |
| | Since the Golf season in New England is fast approaching and we
    have a new league starting up here in Marlboro, I would like to
    renew this long forgotten request for a handicapping system. We
    will be running a small league of about 24 people and need some
    sort of system (preferably something that can be run on Rainbow)
    to keep the competition interesting and friendly. I will also be
    interested in systems without a software base.

    Any help out there?

    Bob

| 27.3 | There was a Rainbow package... | CGOS01::MHAMMEL | Maury Hammel, WNO SIS | Thu Mar 05 1987 17:55 | 13 |
|  |
    There is a third-party software package that runs on the Rainbow for
    keeping USGA Handicaps. I forget exactly what it was called, but it
    was marketed by us as part of the DCS (Digital Classifed Software)
    program when the Rainbow first came out (Our unit even had a copy of
    the thing in our office at one time).

    I'll dig around and see if I can come up with the name of the package
    and/or the company. I'll post here if I come up with it.

    Maury...

    	This is not an answer to your request but it may help. A few
    years ago I was asked to help start a golf league here in Burlington.
    Since it was mostly going to be high handicappers, I wanted to put
    in something simple, avoided head to head match play (since most
    people didn't understand that), and avoid controversy over adjusting
    scores. I used a quota system. You got 1 point for a bogey,2 for
    par, etc. Your handicap was 18 - The # of points you scored in
    9 holes. The system worked very well for the 2 years that I was
    in the league. It was quick, simple and the person that did the
    handicaps didn't have to listen to would-be hustlers. I understand
    that they still use the same system now. It might be something
    to consider.

This one is pretty good. It lets you enter scores for rounds of 9 (ie. it
lets you NOT enter all 18 holes for a score). You can also record
additional info about each hole (e.g. how many putts, what club used on
tee, what hazards you encountered, if there was a penalty, etc). Offers 4
different (and customizable) methods for calculating your handicap, too.
I like it!

Uhh... Thanks for making this available, but I don't see how learning to
plat the guitar is going to help my golf game. :-)
