I have a customer who will be upgrading several VAX systems from
VMS 6.1 to OpenVMS 7.1 in the near future.
He has VAX C 3.2-044 and wants to know it that will run on 7.1. I can
not find any mention of VAX C in the Software Public Rollout Reports.
I know that DEC C is a much more current and robust product and I have
suggested that he install that. His response: does that cost money?
Does the "C" license cover both VAX C and DEC C (and DEC C++)?

The reason he doesn't see VAX C listed in any of the reports is due to it being superceded (over five years ago, now) by DEC C. The VAX C compiler will likely still work on OpenVMS VAX V7.1, but don't expect any compiler fixes, and expect any VAXCRTL fixes made only grudgingly. : Does the "C" license cover both VAX C and DEC C (and DEC C++)? Yes, a current "C" license PAK will allow use of VAX C and DEC C. Both VAX C and DEC C can be co-resident on the same system, with the default C compiler chosen during installation, and either C compiler available via specific qualifiers. | |||||
