Depending on what your stated value and the type of car your insurance
may require an appraisal. They will give you a list of what they
consider valid appraisors. Joe's garage at the corner may or may not
    qualify.

As far as getting an appraisal for personal use, I wouldn't waste the
money. They are rarely any reflection of the car's actual value. I
always laugh when I see "1968 mumble mumble" recently appraised at
10k, will sell for 6K. Now, isn't the 10k supposed to be what the
    car is worth?

If your wondering what your car is roughly worth, pick up a Hemmings
and find one in roughly the same shape and deduct around 35%. That
will give you a good idea of what someone might be willing to pay.

| | If your in Central Mass. you can try Gerry Martel at the Fitchburg
Music shop on Main Street in Fitchburg.I had him appraise a car a few years
ago that was accepted by METPAY for insurance purposes. His appraisals
are more realistic to what the car can be sold for than some other
appraisers (though for insurance purposes, you probably want a high-end
appraisal). The price was $75.00 which I thought to be rather high. Also
insurance companies want a new one every year.He uses 3 reference books
to arrive at HIS appraisal price. The books vary quite a bit, for
    example:

    72 Dodge Challenger Ralleye

Old Cars Price Guide June 1990 Edition
    Condition1 $11,300 Condition2 $9000 Condition3 $6300

Cars of Particular Interest April,May,June 1990 Edition
    HIGH $5800 AVERAGE $4200 LOW $2575

Gold Book of Collector Cars June 1990 Edition
    HIGH $11,300 AVERAGE $9000 LOW $6000

| 90.3 | where to get appraisal books? | YEOLD::PROVENCAL |  | Mon May 24 1993 13:08 | 9 |
| | Does anyone know where I could get a copy of any of the appraisal
    books as mentioned above.

ie. "Old Car Price Guide", "Gold Book of Collector's Cars" or
         "Cars of Particular Interest".

I have called 2 libraries and neither one has any of those!

    Thanks!

| 90.4 | anyone have a sample appraisal I could get a copy of? | YEOLD::PROVENCAL |  | Tue May 25 1993 06:28 | 9 |
| | Better yet...

Does anyone out there have an "official" appraisal that I could have
a copy of to give to my Auto Body guy? He's a licensed appraiser,
but Metpay didn't like the way he did up the appraisal on my 67
camaro. Since he's not going to charge me for the appraisal... I'd
like to get a sample to show him so that he can re-do it....

    Thanks!
