Well, it looks like it's finally a reality. Dave Orin had mentioned way back in 2052.7 (20-July-1989) that it would be forthcoming. MIDI controllers can be programmed to control: LFO and envelope rates and depths, layer balance, amplitude and pitch control, and more. Compatible with Kurzweil's Object Mover software. PACKAGING: K1200 Pro 88 ($2995) and Pro &6 ($2595) feature velocity and pressure sensitive , weighted keyboards with 88 and 76 keys, respectively. The Pro 1 ($1595) is a 2U rack-mount version. -Dan

With the exception of more addressable patch locations (MIDI, are you
listening?), the 24-voice, 6Mb architecture make it sound awfully like
a 1000 with the PXA upgrade.

So does anyone know what this machine's got that the Proteus doesn't
have? The Proteus is cheaper and has more voices. Why buy this one
instead?

| 2581.3 | But I haven't heard one yet... | PENUTS::HNELSON | Resolved: 192# now, 175# by May | Wed Feb 27 1991 17:51 | 5 |
Exactly the question I posed Rick Cohen (of Kurzweil/Young-Chang). His
answer was "the Kurzweil sounds!" True but not sufficient at that
price, methinks.

| 2581.4 | Rackmount = 1000PX + KXA + Version 5 OS | RTL::RTL::TOTTON | Mon Mar 11 1991 16:49 | 8 | |
In talking with tech. specialist at YC, the 1000PX + the PXA sound block and the V5 OS is the same as the rack mount module. And in fact, in reading the V5 addendum that I got with my new chip set, indeed it talks about the keyboard products as well. I think that makes my discounted 1000PX with the upgrade a real bargain... - Jim | |||||
