Welcome to the COMMUSIC "Hall of Fame."

The rationale behind the creation of this note is to provide a single location
which serves as an "index," if you will, of all those "must read" notes that
seem (for me, anyway) to be (a) eminently re-readable, and (b) constantly
moving around- that *must* be why I have such a hard time finding them!

I'd like it if respondents could limit replies to "pointers" to only the
creme de la creme, increasing the value of the note. If you just think it's a
good idea (or a lousy one), please don't reply just to say so- it will just make
it *less* of a good thing, right?

The stimulus which prompted me to create this topic was an entry I think is
worthy of kicking off a "greatest of" list- note 282, by Karl Moeller. I've read
*many* articles and more than one book covering psychoacoustics, the physics of
sound, and basic recording techniques for "small" studios, but Karl's "article"
combining the topics concisely sums up what you *really* need (and why)
superbly. I've read it more than once over the weekend and probably will again.

Still, why this topic? Well, because I've been in this conference for a while
and hadn't yet *seen* Karl's note- I haven't the time to wait for selective
directory listings (on a VS2000!), and thus "oldies but goodies" go unnoticed
until someone calls attention to them, as Karl did recently to his "LOW-TECH
PRODUCTIONS" gem. BTW, Karl, if you're reading this, have you considered a
second edition? Times have changed since '86, and I for one would be interested
in your current views. Kudos for putting in the effort to share your experience.

    While I'm not likely to squash this note, I do want to remind folks
    that KEYWORDS are extensively used in this conference, and the mods
    are more than happy to create any new ones you may need. Use of
    keywords can make finding subjects very easy.
    
    Noters can also use "markers" (Use HELP to read more) to make personal
    pointers to notes.

    BTW _ My repsonse was not intended to discourage use of this note,
    but rather to point out that NOTES supports a variety of features
    that can help locate specific items...

    All those nifty NOTES features require that you remember what you're
    looking for.  A note that just enumerated "great discussions" would
    be useful in jogging peoples' memories.

    Well, Bob, I'm glad you got good things out of that old article.  BTW,
    it was purchased by Keyboard Magazine in '85, but was never published.
    
    re my current views.. espoused daily in this conference.. I'm afraid
    that another 'article' would merely rehash what others and myself are
    doing in our studios.. audio stuff, mixer/patchbay/FX, MIDI layering 
    using a computer and multitimbral SGU's, and sync-to-tape issues.

    	Be sure to include in any list, the all time Digitial Rat Hole
    Gold Medalist, "What does Multi-timbral Mean". Truly a note that
    should be bronzed, along with it's main participants ;-)
