| | Yep, ESQ MIDI OUT to MC-500 MIDI IN. Set MC to External Clock and
    make sure ESQ transmits clock...

Should be no problem at all...

| | Yes. Connect ESQ out -> MC in, and vice versa. Tell the MC500
to listen to external clock/sync, then put the thing in record mode.
Pressing PLAY on the ESQ1 will start the MC sequencer, and you're
    all set.
Caveats:
All tracks on the ESQ sequencer must be set to BOTH or MIDI (on the
MIDI sequencer page). Tracks set to LOCAL will not be played out the
MIDI port, and will not be recorded.
I'm assuming that the MC500 can do 'multi-channel record'. If it
can't, the above will require an iteration for each channel.
All ESQ data will be squished onto one MC500 track. This may or may
    not be desirable.
    Good luck.

| | The MC will record multiple channels.

...and you can unsquish it with the EXTRACT utility.

| 2087.4 | SYSEX - It should work | CSC32::MOLLER | Nightmare on Sesame Street | Fri Aug 18 1989 15:31 | 18 |
| | You are just asking if you can do a SYSEX dump to the MC, right?
And not necessarily saving the sequences by playing them??
I save SYSEX dumps of the sequencer information to my MIDI disk
(not an MC-500), as well as that in my MMT-8 sequencer. If the
MC allows bulk SYSEX dumps (up to about 32K in size, depending
on how much is in the sequencer, or if you have the expansion
memory in the ESQ-1 or not), it should be easy to do. The ESQ-1
will send a bulk dump down the MIDI OUT port & if you have started
the MC to wait for the SYSEX file, It will get it. Reloading is
just the opposite, tell the ESQ-1 that it will be recieving data
& start sending the SYSEX from the disk.
I don't know if you need added software for the MC-500 to make this
work, however, I think that Len had mentioned that he uses his
	MC for SYSEX dumps.

| | Jens brings up a good point ... if you're just looking for a storage
repository, I think you'll have to get the Librarian software for the
MC - I've heard tell that it can't record large SYSEX dumps in sequence
record mode. Len or Edd should know more.
BTW - there may be a hassle with this, depending on the rev of your
friend's ESQ. Pre v3.5 revs required handshaking in order to get the
thing to dump. And if he has an expanded sequencer (ie 20Knote
/64Kbytes), I'm not sure that the MC will handle a dump of that size.
If you're planning on using both live, the MC is going to go thru
several power-up iterations based on the o/s (librarian or sequencer).
    Could be a hassle.
