| 1883.1 | Let's hope they update the Matrix. | DYO780::SCHAFER | Brad - back in Ohio. | Wed Feb 01 1989 10:07 | 12 |
| | This sounds like a real neat box, EXCEPT ...
    There's no way to expand the unit. For example, what happens if I
    decide that 8 voices aren't enough?  I can't just add a Matrix-6 or
    Matrix 1000 for spillover, because they're NOT polytimbral. And I
    don't want to pay another $1300 for 8 extra voices.
    I hope they come up with a mod for the Matrix 1000 that makes it the
    functional equivalent of an "OB-8k expander" (no pun intended). 8
    voices just aren't enough anymore (IMO).

               I need a rack mount version of this baby.
               Was there any mention about that?.

| | It's called the Matrix 1000. Not polytimbral and only 6 voices. From
    what I've heard, this is actually an extension of that box. Current
    news is nada on a rackable OB8k.

    	I've tried the Matrix 1000 and was not really impressed. It
    would be nicer if it was multi-timbral and user editable (wo/P.C.),
    which sounds like a OB8Kr.

| | See the Matrix-1000 note for some contrasting views. Many people
    find this box unmatched at the price, its monotimbrality and nonlocal
    programmability notwithstanding.

I for one don't think monotimbrality is a major fault (not that I have one
of these boxes). If you need > 1 timbre than buy another box. 5 of these
boxes = ~$2250 = 5 multi and 30 polyphonic (with some restrictions) ~=
price of a good quality multitimbral box.

    	I'm not knocking monotimbral synths. I'm just not interested
    in a f***ing Matrix 1000. I *am* interested in the OB8K and the
    availability of a rack mount version. Period.

    			Isn't this the OB8K topic?.

| | I hadda call Oberheim last week to order a manual and asked about the
OB8K. He said they were scheduled to send it out in August, but there seemed
to be delays... He said very little - just gave me fluff about top secrecy.
