| 1175.1 | One in Birmingham (England) | HEART::MACHIN |  | Thu Jan 28 1988 03:29 | 7 |
| | As it happens, I have been looking for a multimoog for ages, and
last night someone rang me and said he had one for sale -- because
he'd just bought a memorymoog. I'm afraid it's in the Old England
area, but if you have any queries, maybe he could help when I visit
    him this weekend...

    Richard.

They are a local Boston band that has a national (maybe international)
    following!

Thanks. A trip across the pond to play a Moog... have to think about
    that.

I acquired a Moog recently. I don't have a lot of experience with
synths but if mine is how a Moog is supposed to sound, there is
definitely a Yamaha something-or-other in my future. Mine sounds
terrible: lots of distortion, rumblings in the voltage controlled
    oscillator, tuning instability, etc.

Moog Inc has gone bye-bye. Bob Moog now works for Kurzweil in Mass.
The resources of Moog were bought up by EJE Research in New York.
EJE added a MIDI to mine - and then told me that's how Moog's sound.

I have found another tech with experience in Moogs but before I
put it on the truck (again!) I wanted to play a "reference" machine.

| 1175.4 | Moogs have built-in overdrive | CTHULU::YERAZUNIS | Exit left to Funway | Thu Jan 28 1988 09:59 | 17 |
| | The VCO shouldn't rumble, but the distortion is supposed to be there.

More specifically, most Moogs had a built-in overdrive. Look in
the area on the Moog labeled "Mixer". If any of the sliders are
    over half-way up, you're overdriving.

Bob Moog built it that way on purpose.

And I am looking for anything BUT a Memory Moog or a PolyMoog (I've
played a PolyMoog and it's fun for a while. But only a while.
Lack of good modulation routing makes me prefer a MicroMoog/Rogue.)

But what I really want is a MiniMoog or a Moog Modular.

    	Anybody selling?

How about a Multimoog? I just bought one, and it sounds great
even though it needs a knob or two fixing. You can mod
most things with most other things -- a real character.

| | I had a chance about 4 mos. ago to buy 2 Memory Moog units for around
$700 for the two of 'em. I played with one, but wasn't all that
impressed, and let the deal slide by.
Now I'm wondering if this was a stupid thing to do ...

What *was* a MultiMoog. I think I must have blinked and missed
this one. I recall the Poly, the Memory, the Micro (played one
once) etc, but I draw a blank here.

| 1175.8 | Multimoog WAS 800 pounds... | HUNEY::MACHIN |  | Mon Feb 08 1988 05:27 | 10 |
| | Multimoog is a two-osc minimoog, with aftertouch on the keyboard
and a ribbon controller rather than a wheel for pitch. Like the
mini, later revs stay in tune. 'Multi' refers to the extra source
for controlling modulation -- the aftertouch. Very expressive, and
capable of many classic moog tones.

Byt the way, if anyone needs them I have circuit diagrams for the
1978 rev. (These also show the board that's in the Micromoog).

| | I just bought a MemoryMoog for around 4 bills. (no midi) - It has
been sitting since it was new in a music store in Atlanta and each
time I went in there to try and buy it they would ask too much
1,200.00! So I called them last week and made a offer and wala they
took it. Unfortunatly UPS - dropped the box and killed it! A few
keys are now broke and no output... I had to reseat the power supply
board AFTER I turned it on and SMOKE. I think it's now dead. I am
really pissed. I've been looking for a MemoryMoog for a while as
    I collect analog synths.

This one is mint - now if I can just get it going... Anybody
wanna fix it for me ?? I'll pay going rate. I don't trust music
    repair shoppes.

    In the Boston area.

If you want it repaired, I can dig up a place that does very good
work on the old Moogs and Prophets. They're expensive, but they
do a _good_ job. (Friend of mine bought a Mini-moog for $150, and
spent $500 getting it to work- but it now works perfectly).

Bring on the sackcloth and ashes! Out with the incense and bay

Try calling the store. Tell them it "did not arrive in operable
condition." They may be able to do something. Then again, probably
they won't. Some bozo may get fired for shipping something valuable
without insurance. But then again, that bozo deserves it.

pro audio). Ask for George the Third. Ask George where he got
    his Mini-Moog fixed.

| 1175.16 | Try Secret Service | DYO780::SCHAFER | Brad - DTN 433-2408 | Fri Jun 17 1988 11:41 | 17 |
| | If this is the Jim Lince that I talked to years ago, welcome back! (If
    not, never mind.)
If you got the thing from American or Rhythm City in Atlanta, good luck
getting anything out of them. They're owned by the same guy, and I
will *NEVER* buy anything from them ever again. In any event, I'm
inclined to believe that the shipper will pick up at least some of the
cost of fixing this. You can't blame lousy packing for broken keys ...
it takes a heck of a wallop to break those babies.
If you don't mind shipping it (again), there is a place in Cincinnati,
OH that does fabulous repair work. They're called Secret Service, and
the number is 513-541-2292. Ask for Bob. They did my OB-Xa right.
Good luck on getting it fixed.

| | Thanks for the replies.

    	Brad - Yes it's me. I also have a BEAUTIFUL OB-8 (mint) . I
love it (if a person can 'love' a thing). WHo said it was not insured
??? Not me. Of course it was insured. I just don't wanna send it
to some clown. I want it done right. UPS is doing thier insurance
thing.. I ain't shipping that thing anywhere ever again! Not until
    I get a flight case.

BTW I just got a Prophet-5 MIDI. Mint . What a machine. Yes
    I'm hard-core analog.

RE: .16 - Brad you know George !! What a character. You really have
to watch your rear around him & crew. AMERICAN is even worse! THats
where they send all the bad doobies.

I've bought alot of stuff from George and I've had *reasonable*
success. You really have to get mad and demonstrate it to get George
    to help you.

Thanks for the info Guys - Addresses are noted, now to get 3,000
dollars from UPS..... (pain and suffering - staring at a dead synth).

| 1175.18 | Finally | ODIXIE::LINCE |  | Fri Dec 06 1991 16:20 | 32 |
| | Hi -

I'm still here!!!! Who has some MEMORYMOOG patches to swap ???

The previous story finally finished with a $450 dollar check from UPS
and still a dead memorymoog. It would cost way too much to get
repaired as I found out. So, I tried to fix it myself... Well I got it
to fire up, and I fixed a couple of bad OSC's , but still it is not
perfect. So.... a nice paper weight...

Around the spring of 1990, I saw an ad for a Memorymoog plus for
500.00 (that's right $500.00). I went to look at it and it was
GEORGIOUS!!!!! Not a scratch (like it had been stored), latest revs and
    MIDI to boot!

So I am the (finally) proud owner of a working Memorymoog and am
looking for some interesting patches for it...

I still have the other Memorymoog which needs some help and would
consider a trade it for another analog plus cash on my end.

I am looking for: A OB Expander...
A Jupiter 6 (must have MIDI)
    			  OB8 Midi Kit
OB DX Stretch Drum Machine with MIDI

It's probably worth $200.00. It looks great, just acts sick.

    Whatever, Thanks everyone

    Jim
