this keyboard and some used keyboards (603) 888-1160. They should have
or be able to obtain information for you on how to contact Ensoniq
and what models have which features.

| Ensoniq Co. is located in Malvern, PA. Don't know the number...
The easiest way to tell the newest from the old is by the color
and location of the drive. The new models have the drive located
on top and the older ones have it located in front.
The anti-aliasing filter (150db/octave cut) is a $150 add on for
the oldest models and is built into the newer and newest. I've got
the filter. Be glad to demo if you're interested.

| The way to tell the oldest from the old is by the feel of the keyboard.
Extremely old mirages have an unweighted keyboard, which some people
say felt like playing on old sponges. They went to the same keyboard
feel as the ESQ (medium weight, low friction) about the time the ESQ
came out.
Then they went from big buttons (about 1 cm x 1.5 cm) to little buttons
like the ESQ has (about 5 mm by 1 cm).
Then they started making the Mirage DSK- which says "DSK" in big yellow
letters, and has the floppy disk above the pitch bend and mod wheels,
rather than below them.
I thought the DSK couldn't use the input sampling filter, but did
NOT have one built in. (actually, you don't NEED the filter unless
you are sampling at lower frequencies than the built-in filter can
go.)
Can any Mirage and Mirage DSK owners out there enter the specs for
the sampling freq. limits of their respective machines? It'd be
nice to have them here.

information that I'd like to share:

Other ways to tell between the oldest and "newer" models:
Oldest ones have all black buttons on the keypad.
Newer ones have different colors as well, like gray, white?, etc.
Newer ones have serial numbers above 1471 (that's what the Ensoniq
rep *thought* anyway --he also said to be safe, go with units with
numbers 1500 and up).

| Does anyone know if the Mirage supports that "Overflow Mode" like
the ESQ-1, where it ships any notes over the 8-voice limit down
to the next one?????

| Well, I finally found the Mirage I wanted and picked it up last
night! It came with a hard-shell case, over 20 disks, the Advanced
Sampling Guide, and a stand. I love it! Got it just in time for
the gig tonight. I do have an additional question about the factory
disks however...
I got a price list sent to me from Ensoniq with all the disks that
they offer. I noticed that the disks that I got with my unit have
all the same sounds, but they are arranged differently on the disks.
Is there any explanation for these differences?

| There's really no explanation. Ensoniq just moved some of the
samples around for whatever reason...
I remember reading in The Transoniq Hacker (get a subscription)
that most, if not all, the sample were identical to the earlier
release. I can look up any differences if you want.
