    Re: .0

Of the used verbs you mentioned, only the Alesis XT and Midiverb
are digital, the others are springs, which can be OK but if you
can afford the extra bucks, the digital will give you better sound
in most cases and *definitely* will prevent spring crashes...

Midiverb 2 lists for $395, some people have reported them down in
the $300 range. The 2 does everything the original does, plus adds
delay, echo, chorus effects and is rack-mountable out of the box
(the original Midiverb required rack-mount adapters). There are
notes on these including reviews elsewhere in this file, check the
    directory.

If you're on a tight budget, need only reverb (no dealy, flange,
echo, etc.) the Microverb from Alesis at $249 list, around $200
if you nose around, is small, easy to use and sounds killer.

As far as springs go, I have used the Furman and it is real nice
    for a spring unit.

| | Thanks. That's what I needed to hear. My birthday's coming up
and I've been dropping hints to my wife. I can get effects with
the other stuff I've got. The specs on the Microverb look like
it should be good (stereo, 16 bits, don't know about bandwidth),
but this is the first time I've noticed response from someone who's
actually heard it. It does have reverse and a couple of gate presets,
so maybe it won't be so bad. I'm not into springs. Maybe my ol'
buddy Shane (Profound Sound) can quote me a good price. I'll keep
y'all posted if you have interest.

AVOID the Alesis XT reverb. Noisy, noisy, noisy! and the quality
of the reverb isn't that good, either.

You might want to consider the ART Proverb as well. Has 99 presets
(various reverb lengths, chorus, gated, reverse, echo and delay efx),
is stereo, rackmountable, and lists for 345. Most places selling it for
~275.

| 850.5 | MIDIVERB II all the way! | SUBSYS::GLORIOSO |  | Wed Jul 01 1987 14:42 | 12 |
| | Go with the MIDIVERB II ! I just got one about a month ago for
$310.00 from Ace Music in Miami by mail. It's got everything you'll
probably ever need and more. (See other notes for features)
In comparison with the proverb I think the MV II beats it hands
down. Proverb is only 10k bandwidth and the MV II is 15k. The
Chorus presets are very rich and have a very smooth stereo field.
Even the longest verb settings are smooth. Another nice effect
is the double and single tapped delays where the signal pans between
    channels!

    			Good Luck.....spend the extra buck.

| | Okay, Midiverb II it is (if my wife will get it, and I'm pretty
sure she's already ordered it). Shane quoted me $325 for it.
He's already saved me money before, so I figure the differnce won't
kill me. He told me he carried the Proverb, Midiverb II, and Microverb
and had the best to say about the Midiverb II. Gee, turning 30 may
not be so bad after all...

I've been in the market (sort of) for a good, cheap, quiet reverb
unit. The poor soul who advertized a Midverb for $150 a while back
was also tormented (though briefly) by yours truly, I'm afraid.
Anyway, I notice that Rogue Music has been advertizing used Furman
(probably RV-1) for about $95 (down from about $150), Orban 111B
reverb for $200, and Alesis XT Reverb for $265. Does anybody have
any info on these? Any recommendations? I've also seen a Midiverb
on the net for about $200. Anybody know what the Midiverb 2 goes
for and maybe whether it gives you as much bang for the buck? Just
    interested. Thanks!

well, im the poor soul that advertised the midiverb for $150. I
have a midiverb II 16 bit microprocessor unit. I love it. It is
very clean sounding with gated, delay, flanger, chorus, efx type effects.
I sold the midiverb I so i could by another midiverbII but instead I
got a tune-up for my car. It runs 399.00/ which I feel is well worth
    the money.
    just a poor souls opinion!!

| | My wife gave me the Midiverb II yesterday, deciding not to wait
for my birthday (!). YYEEEAAAHHHHH! Nice box. Nice sound. You
know, in spite of it all, I feel like my system is pretty complete
now. Perhaps that's only a temporary feeling, but I'm pretty content.
It's really a blessing to have equipment that's good enough to do
just about anything my little heart wants. Now, if I can just find
    a little more TIME...time...time

| | I just ordered a Midiverb II from Profound sound (thnx Shane). Still
getting $325 for them. I liked the courteous service and time that
he was willing to spend with me, even though this took three days
(they are a bit backlogged due to holiday season and vacations on
their staff, I was a bit frustrated by this but perservered and
    got good service)

This is a good outfit to deal with on the phone....now I can't wait
    until the verb shows up!

| 850.11 | Problem with MidiVerb I | MUNCSS::BURKE |  | Fri Dec 16 1988 05:34 | 14 |
| | I have a problem with my newly-acquired second-hand MidiVerb I (yes
    I). Can anyone help ?
Setup (in brief): Roland TR505 drums into the MidiVerb, with the
Atari ST in the driving seat.
While the TR505 is banging the drums, the Midiverb seems to be
switching off/on the reverb effect (Note-on/Note-off messages ?).
Sounds terrible. I have no choice but to cut the MidiVerb out of the
MIDI circuit, and operate the front panel manually. Since it's a
MIDI machine, this method of operation is not at all satisfactory.
I want to change reverb patches and/or switch off/on the reverb
    from my sequencer file.
    Anybody any ideas ?

| | There are a couple things that can be going on here.
If you have the MV I responding to patch change and in OMNI mode, each
time you change a drum pattern, you may be changing patterns on the MV
    I. Or like db said, you might be running into a flanged reverb or a
gated snare with a high threshold.
Also, there's an earlier note (entitled just MIDIVERB or something like
that ... in the 1st 300 or so notes) that *may* have more info on your
    predicament.
    Good luck.

| 850.14 |  | SALSA::MOELLER | Richard Clayderman wannabe | Fri Dec 16 1988 11:56 | 12 |
| | I too have the original MIDIverb (also -fex).. it powers up listening
to MIDI channel 1. if you don't manually change it then it'll follow
any patch changes you send to channel 1. It will NOT respond in
    any way to note info.

So I'm puzzled by the cyclic nature of its problem. Mine sounds
crappy if overdriven. As I would have to adjust the MIDI channel
every time it's powered on , AND remember to imbed a patch change
meant for the reverb in each and every sequence, I've just left
it and the MIDIfex out of my MIDI network.

| | Anybody know anything about the Yamaha R100 reverb? It is part of their
"Personal Studio" line. It is in a tiny box only slightly larger than a
MicroVerb. More settings though. It is reviewed in the July 88 issue of
"Home & Studio Recording" which I have not seen. (Anybody have a copy they
could xerox and send me? The SPX50D review in the same issue too.)

A friend of mine has and R100. Something like 60 presets, but some
parameters of the presets can be altered, I believe. I think it's
in the $200+ range. I will try to find out for sure. I wouldn't compare
    it to a Microverb.
