| | Sorry to hear of your gain, Edd. ;^)
Try Active Electronics in Westboro. They are supposed to be the best
stocked of "normal" and "weird" chips...

| | When I was working in audio repair (10-12 years ago), I replaced
    may of such critter.
You should be able to find a cross replacement by ECG (Sylvania)
or SK (RCA) and if HEP (Motarola) if still around. Try your local
electronic supply house and they should be able to criss-cross it
for you. I do mean a real wholesale electronic supply house not
    CHIPS-R-US or what-have-you.

I know it sounds a bit primitive, but have you called Akai field
    service?

Last time I needed one of those 9 pin SIP audio amps, it was for
a Clarion auto power amp. I called them, and they shipped COD in
3 days. After trying to find an equivalent at You've Done It, Horizon,
    Eli's, Newark, Gerber, and Active/Future.

It's worth a try, and less of a headache than looking for substitutes.

| | I know this sounds unbelievable, but last night I actually BOUGHT
    the unit. (Good price.)

I have the print set on it. Nowhere does it give a U.S. address
for service/parts. Can some one provide the U.S. address? The
only address is some place in Huchicuchi, Japan....

I *do* have a schematic of the chip, plus a template if
I decide to burn my own PCB.

Tom... Can you suggest a functional equivalent?

    Thanks
    Edd

| 498.11 | ECG part is Obsolete | CLOVAX::RATASKI | Tom Rataski | Wed Sep 10 1986 15:50 | 14 |
| | I checked to see what I used back when. I used an ECG part number.
Can't find the particular ECG number now. When I look it up in the
current ECG replacement catalog I get the nice little OBS-NLA which
translates to OBSOLETE - NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

I also checked RCA replacements. No luck. not listed.

If you can find a electronic place that has had the ECG line for
a long time (~8 yrs) they may have one laying around on the shelf.

Sorry that I can't be of any more help.

| | By the way, folks, your neighborly Radio Shaft (or whatever you
like to call it) now accepts orders for onesie-twosies of just
about any semiconductor device. They've wired themselves into
a big replacement parts outfit, and they have the big replacement
catalog available for your perusal in the R.S. retail stores.

I haven't ordered by this method, but they claim 2 weeks turnaround,
I think. Of course, the part number game that you play with the
catalog probably requires some exposure to the repair business,
or plain old ESP. I don't know if this service has been made
available in all of their retail outlets yet...
