| | I don't know where Riviere Rouge is... but the Ottawa River has some
good Grade IV rapids if you go in the Spring. Owl River Rafting is a
pretty good company. You can do a one day trip OR they have camping
packages. (your own tent or their tents) The food was pretty good and
the guides were excellent. I looked up their number in case you were
    interested - 1-800-461-7238.

| | You can also try Wilderness Tours at 1-800-267-9166. I beleive that they
run both the Ottawa and the Rouge.

| | The Riviere Rouge empties into the Ottawa, the other side from
Hawkesbury. From what I understand its rapids are better.

I don't know if you've been yet, and maybe this response is a bit late,
but my experience on the Rouge was that it was relatively boring! I have been
on both rivers twice and both times the Rouge had considerably less aggressive
water. (ie: smaller standing waves, less holes, and lots of spots were we
actually ran aground and had to get out and push!)
OWL and Wilderness Tours are both respectable Witewater companies and
equally fun to ride with. The wilderness Tour rafts are slightly larger, but
not as 'solid' a raft as the smaller OWL rafts. I am not sure what the OWL
rafts are made of, but they 'seem' to be inflated at a higher pressure, and they
are more manouverable(sp?) due to the guide using Oars, instead of a paddle.
All four trips were fun, but if you really want to experience the
better ride, I suggest you go on the Ottawa. Both Owl and Wilderness depart
from Beachburg which is only about an hour from Ottawa.
If you are taking a trip with small children, or you want a toned down
whitewater experience, OWL also runs a whitewater trip on the Madawaska river
in Barry's Bay.
	Have fun,
	Regards,
		Gord C.

I'm sorry I wasn't specific in my original note. A group of
Dad's are heading to Montreal for the father's day weekend and
were hoping to do one day of rafting. We'ed like to go someplace
(rafting) thats exciting and within two hours from the city.

    	Thanks for your help,

    	Scot

doesn't someone offer rafting right out of Montreal, I think they go
down the Lachine's? Check a Montreal tourist guide or such. Its on an
island so it should be a possibility! I expect it would be more of a
touristy thing than a tour down the Rouge...

| | on the Lachine Rapids it's steel bottom boats, not rafts. So, if you
want the thrill of paddling in a raft, you'll have to go up the Ottawa.
