Could anyone give me some info. on British Columbia University , or
just on being a student in Vancouver ?

I am English, working in France, and considering doing an MBA with
maybe a few sports type courses on the side. Vancouver looks like a
fine spot. I'm 26 with a BSc in Aero. Eng., Post Graduate Diploma in
Computing & Comms. and 4 years solid experience in defence & computing
    companies.

Whats the BCU MBA course like ? Does BCU have a good reputation ? How
easy would it be to get in ?

How much would a year cost at BCU ? What are the living exepenses like?

Does the University offer good sports facilities courses - my main
sports are Soccer (qualified coach) and skiing ?

What is the situation regarding Visa's ? How difficult would it be to
go the full way and emmigrate ?

Can anyone give me any adresses /numbers for BCU ?

Thankyou very much for any help,

    Clive.

| I cannot answer about UBC, but I can give you some info about
    immigration etc.

You can come to Canada with a student visa which will not normally
allow you to work to assist paying your costs, unless you can
    arrange a work permit too.

You can immigrate to Canada given the right qualifications and join
the queue of people to come over. You come on a points / quota system
where education, career field, relatives / sponsorship, cash in hand
and so on all matter. Every country has a quota on the number of
immigrants it will accept from that country.

In BOTH cases application MUST be made from outside Canada at your
nearest Canadian Diplomatic Mission, Consulate or High Commission.

You CANNOT come to Canada on a student visa and decide you want to
stay and apply to immgrate from within Canada ... your application,
interviews, health screening etc must be performed outisde Canada
normally in your country of residence.

There are virtually NO EXCEPTIONS to these rules. So, visit your
local Canadian Consular offices and see what they have to say. It
may take several months to organize so if you want to be here in
September '92 you'll need to get your skates on PDQ!

| I am not a UBC graduate myself. My brother and ex-wife are both products of the MBA programme at UBC, and my ex went on to get her PhD in marketing from the same department, so I feel I can pass on some second-hand comment. [By the way, a recent "survey" of Canadian Business schools appeared in the magazine Canadian Business. I believe it was the April or May issue. It rated Univ of Toronto tops overall I believe, and I won't recount all the details here. Yes, UBC's B-school does have a very good reputation academically. They consider themselves more traditional than Univ of Western Ontario, who adopt the "case study" approach, but they both enjoy good reputations. | |||||
