| | Where exactly do you want to stay the night? Canada's a big country and
there's a lot of places you can stay the night between Montreal and
Vancouver. Of course, you could take the Canadian (Trans-Canada train
    service) and sleep on that.

| | Is The Canadian still running? Here in the UK we were told on a TV
programme that the service had been stopped. I shed a few tears since
I was hoping to cross Canada (Montreal to Vancouver) on The Canadian
    early next summer ('93).

| | Yes, the Canadian is still running ...but in a slightly different
format from the original. I cannot remember if it starts in Montreal
    or Toronto now.

Also they stopped running passenger services through one of the two
passes (I cannot remember which one).

A good travel agent should be able to get you a VIA Rail timetable and
    current fars ...

This is a journey I have wanted to do for many many years.

| | The Vancouver/Calgary run is no more. The remaining run through
    Edmonton still exists, I believe.

There is also a "premium" tourist service which runs between Vancouver
and Jasper?/Edmonton?. This service deliberately breaks the trip down
into two days in order to maximize daylight hours in the Rockies, and
includes a night at a hotel in Kamloops or somplace near there. This
is not via rail, but I don't know the name of the company. A travel
agent should be able to get you info on this permium service.
