Canadian citizen who lived the first 21 years of his life in Halifax, Nova
Scotia and the next 21 years in the United States (with a 3 year stay in
Germany compliments of the U.S. Army). My sister lives in Newcastle New
Brunswick and I manage to make forays into Canada a couple of times each year.

My ex-in-laws were from P.E.I. and I spent several great summers up
there and in the other Maritimes - beautiful! Also went up to Montreal
for a couple of unforgettable New Years Eve celebrations. Being an
airplane nut, I have a strange attraction to the Avro Arrow and being
a baseball nut and die-hard Sox fan I detest the Toronto Blue Jays but
envy Toronto's great stadium. The notes in here on Sarnia and the
Grand Canal project are fascinating. We, as Americans, have much to be
grateful to Canadians for, especially clean, cold Artic air, and Martin
Short and Mike Myers. Bruce Cockburn too. Oh yeah, and the robotic
space shuttle arm. Schooner beer. Helping our embassy people in Tehran
get away from those pesky Iranian militiamen...

My mother's family are Canadian ... but of United Empire Loyalist
stock and their home was in Port Colborne, near Niagara Falls. I've
lived in many places in the first 13 and the last 11 years in Canada
(spent 14 years in the middle back in England). Northern, Southern,
Eastern Ontario, and Moncton New Brunswick.

I love Niagara Falls, Magnetic Hill, the Tidal Bore, P.E.I. beaches,
the Gatineau, autumn leaves. I don't care about baseball or football,
but have supported Toronto Maple Leafs since I was a kid (I'm really having
second thoughts now!). (Who remembers the Maple Leaf BASEBALL team ?)

Canada is Railroads, the prairies, the mountains, French Quebec,

is lots of things and that's what makes it great to be here. (Except
    the GST!)

Now that he's in Vancouver, I suspect we will be travelling there

Our new passion is travel to the UK as often as possible (but not
often enough). We are very fond of P.E.I., Nova Scotia, and most
places that are still reasonably open country. Only one trip to
B.C. so far, but are looking forward to more over the years. For
all our time spent in Montral, we are not unhappy about not going
there any more. We like Toronto, and the drive down the Niagara on
the Ontario side. I will be in Calgary for a week in February (just
for the warm weather and DECUS), and think I will like that area
    for some reason.

We have always talked about a trip across Canada from the East coast
to the West, but that will probably have to wait until retirement.
Methinks that a month would be short for that adventure.

    Cheers...Gary

Extracted from files of the Flower Station Hooter & Town Screech:
OMPAH, Ont. (CP) - Your correspondent recently encountered one of the
principal designers of the Grand Canal that is being contructed above
and simultaneously underneath our fair community. Patrick Rushton,
who also has been called Korff Barbunk for reasons that are
inexplicable, was observed falling out of Harry's Bar and Used Storm
Door Emporium disguised as an Educational Specialist (course
developer) for Digital in Kanata. Although of unsound mind and body,
he was able to blurt out a few words that were coherent to a small
number in the large crowd that had gathered around his prone body.
Apparently, his predisposition for things ridiculous originated when a
small particle of brain was blasted into his skull during the first nine
months of his life in war-torn London, England. The British, who have
an over-abundance of silly people, strongly suggested to his
Irish-English mother and Canadian father to take themselves and the
infant Pat to Canada; which they did in 1945. The usually very dim
Canadian Immigration officials were forewarned of their arrival and
stipulated that the family's status in Canada was dependent on the
infant Pat's father remaining in the RCAF so that many communities in
Canada could suffer the indignation of their presence instead of just
one.
Over the years, Pat has managed to devastate many areas of this globe,
including Toronto, Ottawa, Eganville, Almonte, as well as Metz,
France. Out of pity, his wife managed to rescue the Department of
National Defence by finding a job for him in the Manufacturing
Training Department of the Kanata facility of Digital Equipment of
Canada.
Apparently, Mr. Rushton (aka Korff Barbunk) holds patents on a number
of totally ridiculous and utterly useless inventions such as, snow
bags for snowblowers, electric beater-bars for vacuum cleaners in
swimming pools, a left-hand cheese straightener, and a doughnut hole
retaining washer.
One of the last to recognize silent radio as a dead medium, he has
been observed listening to CBC radio's 'As It Happens', 'Double
Exposure', 'The Royal Canadian Air Farce', 'Basic Black', 'Gabareau',
'Max Ferguson', and 'Disc Drive'. Although he now watches the
front-end of the television set, for years he was unable to watch
'Street Legal', 'The Fifth Estate', 'The National', 'The Journal' and
any CBC special on Sunday nights because he spent hours staring at the
back-end.
When a few curious by-standers were able to rummage through Pat's very
large briefcase, they found assorted rings of Kolbasczi sausages, dead
marmasettes, shaved lemmings and CDs of:
AC/DC, Figgy Duff, Jeff Healey, Bryan Adams, Stevie Ray
Vaughan, Bruce Cockburn, The Pogues, The Chieftains, Rare Air,
Mary Black, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, Trevor Pinnock,
	Beethoven, Mozart, The Commitments...
His interest in comedy is very suspicious when one views the list of
his favourites:
Monty Python, The Goons, Dave Broadfoot, 'Four on the Floor', 'CODCO',
'Kids in the Hall', Robin Williams, Groucho Marx, Niall Tobin...
His keen interest in genealogy has taken him back to his roots in the
west of Co. Cork, where a number of people have suggested he remain
and where the locals have contacted the IRA to ensure that he doesn't.
Unfortunately to some, he returns to Canada after each trip to
Ireland.
Presently, he has taken the task of infuriating the moderator of the
Canada notesfile, with some dubious success.

I think we have one thing in common - the love of a fabulous country.

I am a Industrial Trainee based at Reading England, studying Computer
Science at Portsmouth Polytechnic - hoping to emmigrate to Canada after
    I have graduated.

I have dual nationality due to my mother being born in North
Battleford, Saskatchewan, whilst my grandfather was stationed at an
airbase there with B.O.A.C during the war.

My links with Canada do not end there. My uncle is a head pro' at
Lambton Golf and Country Club in Toronto, where I have spent many
vacations. I have also seen bits of B.C. ( from the air too, courtesy
of a Polish friend of mine who emmigrated to Canada and learnt to fly
at a school near Vancouver )

Well if you hear of a job spec for a graduate software engineer then
I'd love to hear from you.

    Happy noting

In addition, a close friend of mine (also German) lives and works in

The current plan is to visit next Spring (1993). It's my other half's

across on the ferry to Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario. SSM, Michigan was
about 1/2 hours drive away. I loved the area, but I do not like the
mosquitoes. 3 of my grand parents were born in Canada... my mothers'
mother was born in Tiverton, N.S., My fathers' father in St. Neree,
PQ, and Grandmother Born in Armaugh, PQ. I have visited Quebec city,
and the environs. My ancestor Jean Royer came from France to Ile
d'orleans in the mid 1600's. I love Quebec and the area about there.
I was directed in 1991 to the site of the farm where my grandfather was
born... near Lac Vert. I read french some, but speaking or
understanding is out of the question.

I had the honour of living in Langley B.C. for three years while
attending university. (Sept '89 to May '92)
Now that I am back in California, I find that miss a few things from
Canada. I miss cross-border shopping. I realize that shoppings trips
into the U.S.A. are considered un-Canadian. I'm just not sure how
people survive paying $2.00/Gal for gasoline.
I miss CBC' RoyalCanadain Air Farce. I'll admit, my first year there I
didn't understand a thing, but now I enjoy it. I guess I miss the whole
Canadian political scene. I aquiered a strange voyeuristic facination
for Canadian politics. Anything from Meech Lake to the election of
Mike Harcort (or is that Haircourt?) I soaked it up.

I enjoyed the auto insurance programme. I used to sit across the table in
the cafeteria with hot under the collar Albertans who had just come from
the ICBC office. They would usually cool off when I tell them how much
I paid for auto insurance in L.A. (My truck *still* has B.C. plates)

I also enjoyed the beautiful trees and mountains. Langley is
semi-rural, and nothing like the concrete jungle of L.A.

I miss a whole lot more about B.C. and Canada than I could list here.
I am looking forward to reading about the province and dominion that
    took my heart.

RCI put it out at 00.05 Monday UTC. That would be 4.05p.m. Sunday
in California. I would think 9755kHz would be the frequency you would
	find it on.
(Here in Massachusetts, it's at 7.05p.m. on 5960kHz).

The local NPR (National Public Radio) or APR (American Public Radio)
carries 'The Farce' in San Francisco, I'm not sure about L.A.

Here is the RCI listing (27 September - 27 March) for the US of A:

    M-F = Monday through Friday
    S-S = Saturday and Sunday

Also, if you're accustomed to using metres instead of kHz, here is the
    conversion:

    	49 metres - 5950kHz to 6200kHz
    	31 metres - 9500kHz to 9775kHz
    	25 metres - 11700kHz to 11975kHz

Born in Vancouver, my father Australian, mother Canadian.
Left when I was 6 (1971) for sunny Australia and have not been
	back yet.
I am planning a trip in July/Aug 94 that may turn into an extended
stay depending on work and of course my reaction to the climate :-).
If my citizenship holds, I hope to contract in Canada & travel west to
east, hopefully locating the tribe of long lost relatives scattered
	across Canada.
I've been with DEC for nearly 5 years now, most recently in IS technical
	support.

I can confirm this. ;) I`m more or less a regular reader of the Candadian
notes-file since about a year.
My name is Stefan Mller-Veeh, from Hamburg/Germany. My sister is Canadian
since 1988, when she married her husband who is Canadian since his birth.
They used to live in Toronto, moved to Kelowna, BC and now are moving back
to Toronto, because they offered my brother in law a good job there (by the
way, if anyone is interested in buying a house in Kelowna with a very nice
garden, contact me. They have to sell it with a tear in their eyes).
I was in Canada last year. We spent 2 weeks in the Okanagan Valley and another
2 weeks with a van on Vancouver Island. We loved it very much and are looking
forward to come back, soon.
Our plans for the next time are 2 weeks in the aerea of Jasper, Banff etc.
and 2 weeks with my sister in Ontario. But it depends on the money I`m able
to save until then. ;)
Now, back to be more or less a RON. ;^)
