Do we really want to do this? Are we allowed?

Subj: Record layout for ATL and SWLUP
System DCV4KC is a VAXstation 4000-90 running VMS V6.2.
(HW Ver=017800000000000013000202, SID=13000202, XSID=04010002, DSN=V1.2)
In the course of my work, I frequently need to make use
of the ACMSAUDIT and SWL log files. While the utilities
supplied with ACMS are usable, they are very slow in
extracting records. And with the ATR utility, I still
have to strip off the carriage-returns and line feeds
from the file.
Will you e-mail me the record format for these files?
Thank you,
Scott Flatland

I think this was asked before (by me when I did support) and
was told that the record format is not a fixed one. It
depends on the record being written.
It is doubtful they could write something faster, it's
written in Bliss which is as close as you can get to machine
language.
I usually use TECO (EDIT/TECO) to remove the cr/lf. The
cr/lf are done with Bliss print statements which I believe
are similar to C's print statements.
Sources and listings to ACMS are normally not made available
(I don't know why, it's not rocket science). Even our
our internal tests use the output ASCII text to produce
the summaries.
I do not have a problem giving Scott the sources to ATR
if, when he's done, he'll make whatever tools he develops
available to the rest of the ACMS customers (either through
the FREEWARE CDROM or DECUS). Tell him to give me a call,
he has my number.
