My wife and I went there this past Friday night. It's the first
time I've been there in at least 20 years. My recollections of
the place were of a cheap, spaghetti-and-meatballs restaurant,
with low-cost food and low-cost surroundings. To my pleasant
surprise, all that has changed.
Silvester's has expanded by adding a brick wing which serves
as the main dining room; the older wooden section is now a
function room. When we arrived, there was a 20-minute wait,
so we sat at a table in their very small bar (5 stools, four
tables for two). We were called for dinner just about twenty
minutes later and were seated in the non-smoking section (I
didn't notice where the smoking section was, as it all seemed
to be just one big room). The room was nice enough, and our
waitress pounced upon us with a basket of freshly-baked bread.
This bread was so good, I ordered another later on. My wife
ordered linguini al pesto, while I tried the veal parmesan with
ziti. Both were cooked to perfection and of ample quantity.
I finished mine, but my wife opted for a take-home container
for hers. Both came with a choice of soup or salad, and we
both elected the salad. It was just right size-wise, not too
small nor too big, and contained the usual veggies (lettuce, tomato,
onion, cukes, etc.). Our bill came to just over $20 including tax.
The quality of the food was definitely good enough to make me
want to return to try other entrees on their quite extensive
menu. The prices/value IMO were moderate; not cheap, but not
expensive.

I recently read an article in the Worcester Telegram which reported
a fire-bombing at Silvester's. It stated that someone through a
molotov cocktail through a back window into their function room,
and considerable fire damage was sustained to the rugs, floor,
curtains and furniture. This happened late last Wednesday night,
February 26. We were there on Friday night and didn't detect
anything. That's why I was quite surprised to read about the
fire after we'd just been there.
