| 285.4 | ISDN Basics ? | 29419::M_SHELDON | Tue Mar 18 1997 09:12 | 21 | |
| Hi: I admit an almost complete lack of knowledge of ISDN, but really need help in answering the following questions related to how the ISDN line should be configured to support a connection to a RouteAbout Access EI. 1) Does the line need 2 "B" channels ? 2) Does the equipment require 2 directory numbers for each "B" channel ? 3) Does the equipment require both voice and data capabilities ? Any help in answering these questions is greatly appreciated. Mike Sheldon CSC/CS Network Support | |||||
| 285.5 | You can't multiplex 2 "B" channels... | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | Tue Mar 18 1997 10:08 | 11 | |
|     >> 1) Does the line need 2 "B" channels ?

    If what you are asking is whether the option exists to multiplex
    the two B channels to create a single 128kbps channel, I believe
    this is not supported. So two B channels are required.
    I'm not sure of the answers to the other questions. Others can
    probably answer those.

>1) Does the line need 2 "B" channels ?

    If the question is, will it work with the 1B+D services offered in some
    areas, the answer is a qualified yes. We haven't tested it on a line
    like this, but it should work.

    If the question is can I use the other B channel for a phone/fax/etc
    the answer is yes; proper configuration is required to avoid clashes!

>2) Does the equipment require 2 directory numbers for each "B" channel ?

    No. On switches that use directory numbers, you need only program in 1
    directory number (a second is optional). That number is not tied in
    any way to a B channel, though! If a call comes in to the number you
    have set in the RouteAbout, it will accept it regardless of the B
    channel.

>3) Does the equipment require both voice and data capabilities ?

    No, it is data only.
