10060.0. "Automated reboot from VMS to UNIX and back" by GERUND::WOLFE (I'm going to huff, and puff, and blow your house down) Fri Jun 06 1997 00:09
At this past DECUS I was speaking to a VMS customer who is planning
on migrating a system over to Digital UNIX. He'd like to keep
VMS on one disk and run that during the day, and keep UNIX on
a second disk and run that at night. The kicker is that he wants
the switchover to be automated. IOW, a batch job would shut down
the VMS system and reboot into Digital UNIX. A cron job then
shuts that system down and VMS should be booted.
I'm guessing this is possible on the newer systems that support
writing console variables. However, I also remember seeing old
notes about time problems when switching OS's. Also, would
there be firmware version issues?
