10041.0. "What version of Digital Unix supports AS1000A 5/400" by KERNEL::HANCOCKM (Use what you (used to) sell) Wed Jun 04 1997 14:27

    Hi Unix People,
to upgrade an Alphaserver 1000 to an Alphaserver
1000A 5/400,what is the minimum vesrion of Digital Unix required to
    recognise the new processor ? 4.0 , 4.0A or 4.0B ....

I we are talking SPD's,then the AS1000A 5/400 doesnt check in until
4.0B,but would it run under 4.0 OK ?

Also,as part of the upgrade,we need to add a VGA Graphics card,as we
lose the onboard graphics. It has to be PCI (both ISA slots in use),and
support the VRC15,and be supported by Digital Unix 4.? (from above query)

| | Hello,

You can find what version of Digital Unix is supported on a platform by
looking on the following web site:

    	henry,
thanks for the location.I went there and found that it
looks like Unix 4.0A is the version that the customer needs. They
have just put a lot of effort into getting to 4.0,and the last thing
they need right now is to be told they have to upgrade again....

    Q. Is there any chance that 4.0 would work (with a kernel build of
       course)

    Q. If no,is the 4.0 to 4.0A a major upgrade,or straightforward

    			Thanks for the interest....

| | The upgrade to V4.0A from V4.0 should be easy...I would suggest you get
them to V4.0B while doing it. I would also suggest installing the V4.0B
patch kit just to do it right.
