Hi A note posted in the alpha managers conference informs people about a patch for tar files greater than 2gb . Is this patch available internally yet? (Because the moment the message went out the calls came in) Subject: Tar > >FYI > >I just found out that the version of tar that comes with 3.2X and 4.0X >does not support files larger that 2 Gb. > >If anyone out there is using tar for archive or backups of large files >(we have Oracle database files that are larger that 2 Gb) beware, your >backups may not be working. > >There is a patch available. It actually replaces pax, tar and cpio. > > Thanks Adrian [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

    Hi, Ken.

You can pick it up on decatl.alf.dec.com using anonymous ftp
    at the following location:

    ~ftp/pub/patches/misc/tar_for_files_gt_4gb

The customer can't get it here - internal only.

    Hth,
