Is there a good writeup anywhere (that I can copy off to customers)
that describes when one would want to use gated (and all of its
complexities) instead of routed?
thanks

If ones need just RIP V1 protocol, and no custome configuration then
use "routed" is sufficient. If there is any need to customize the
routing then only option is to use gated. However, we provide default
gated.conf file that will do what 'routed' do -- so there is no further
complication of using gated.
