One of our customers, called Argentaria (the Spanish public banking
corporation), has started to shift from HP-UX to Digital UNIX.
They have already bought several 4100s in clusters for phone banking
and one 8400 for a data warehouse. Several years ago they decided to use
Sybase instead of Oracle.
Next week, they wish to put one of the 4100 into production, but a problem
may end this happy story:
- One of the programs which comprisse the phone banking application
dumps core while doing a simple memory "free()" call if the new-wire-method
kernel parameter is turned to 0, which is not the default in 4.0+. However,
Sybase has recommeded to set that parameter to 0 in order to avoid database
block corruptions.
What can we do ? When will a fix exist for this problem, which has already
been QARed (#51470)?

QARs get done "in due time"...if you have a customer issue, a CLD or IPMT should be filed. You should set new-wire-method to 0 as there is a bug when it is set to 1 currently. Are you sure the program is not free()ing something incorrectly?? > >Regards, > >Julin Rodrguez >Digital Spain - Technical Sales Support >E-mail: [email protected] >DTN: 874-4192
| 9547.2 | QAR 51470 does not appear to be applicable | RUSURE::DONOVAN | John Donovan CVG Tools 285-2673 | Tue Apr 22 1997 14:20 | 10 |
Hello Julian: There is nothing in the change of the new-wire-method that should cause an application to dump core. You will really need to check the customer's application. The qar that you mentioned, 51470, is for a kernel panic not an application dumping core. John Donovan kamlia::donovan [email protected]
