4.0b system can restore single-volume vdump backups made under 3.2c and multi-volume vdump backups made under 4.0b, but multi-volume dumps made under 3.2c restores the first tape correctly, but the second fails with "can't open /dev/nrmt0h" and an errno that indicates a permission problem! Customer has tried using the 3.2c executable with the same results. Any thoughts/clues? Alexander [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

| 9525.1 | v4.0b vrestore fails to restore multi-volume backup made in v3.2c | RUSURE::KATZ | Fri Apr 25 1997 17:28 | 10 | |
| The permission problem is strange, but unlikely to be vrestore's responsibility. Has the device special file permission bits changed ? Can anything else read the tape after that point ? dd for example ? It sounds like an end-of-tape hardware problem, but then I'm guessing that the driver is relaying the permission problem (and that doesn't seem right). Are there error log entries going along with this ? | |||||
