| This particular problem has been reproduced on a AlphaStation 500.
Once the 10 Base T network card has been enabled, if no connection
is attached on the card, some buffer fills up and eventually causes
the problem mentionned. Note that the AlpahStation 500 was a 233
or 266 Mhz and the problem was occuring only after 7 to 7 1/2 hours.
As opposed to 5 to 5 1/2 on a 4100 EV5 300 Mhz.
The customer uses a 100 BaseT, and once he moved the 100 BT to the 10
BT the problem went away.
It is acceptable to leave the 100 Base T disconnected, not the 10 Base
T.
We will eventually when time permits, reconfigure the system without
the 10 base T (DE450) module in the system.
We tried to disable it via software, but the The DCE Gui would
not appear on the graphic adapter. Perhaps something wrong was
done?
The problem still remains with the DE450 driver or somewhat
within the portion of Unix that handles it.
MCS should be escalating this problem to engineering.
