Hi, Ann
The problem has been resolved after performing the following steps :-
- remove the slave configuration on the master and slave machines
- remove the NFS configuration on the slave machine
- reconfigure the NFS
- add a NIS slave server on master machine by using "makedbm" command
- reconfigure the slave machine as NIS slave
- reboot all the machines
