| | I tried as per the solution given in the previous reply 4.
The printcap entry is same as in the previous reply 4 .
But same thing is prevailing. And after giving print, and see the
status from lpstat it says lp4(name of external n/w print server)down.

once i am giving the details of setup.
we are using HP JetDirect Ex an external n/w printserver. It has got
utp, bnc and prallel port.we have connected printer to the prallel
port of HP JetDirect Ex.And printer is HP laserjet 4P.And Digital unix
Ver 3.2 . And HP JEtDirect is connected to N/W through BNC.
we are able to the PING to the printserver.
And with HP JetDirect Ex, HP has given software for HP-UX and SunOS
And for other Unix they have told to contact the Unix vendor.

Please give us solution to the above mentioned problem as soon as
possible. It is very very urgent.

| 8017.7 | Probably old JetDirect firmware! | TROOA::dhcp005.srn.dec.com::dloten | semper ubi sub ubi | Fri Jan 31 1997 09:22 | 9 |
| | 1. Check the firmware level on the JetDirect card... if its A.0x or something
similar, then its too old to work.
2. A quick check to determine if the firmware is too old is to attemp to
telnet to its ip address... if you get a response, then it should work; if
you get an access denied message or some other negative response, then I
suspect the firmware level is too old. Solution: upgrade firmware or get
newer JetDirect card.

1.Thin wire connection (through which i have connected HP JetDirect Ex).
2.utp port.
3.Prallel port.
4.Test button on HP Jetdirect Ex.
5.HP laserjet 4P printer (Which does not have inbuilt ethernet card).
6.Unix Host.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The above diagram shows how HP JetDirect Ex connected on n/w.
Scince every body is confusing about HP laserJet 4M plus printer,Which
has got inbuilt ethernet card. And we can do telnet to this.
HP JetDirect is an external N/W printserver we can only ping .
For the above setup please tell how to configure on Digital unix 3.2.
I have tried all things which was in told Digital notes conference
reply,but not printing.
LATEST UPDATE DONE IS, I have created lp.cfg (Which contains the
name HP jetDirect EX and ip address of clients which can access this
printserver) . This file path is given in /etc/bootptab file. When we take
test print from HP JetDirect Ex we are getting "Access violation" in
the second page of test print. And on unix side an entry is put in
/var/adm/syslog.dated/mar 12 1997/lpr.log . Whenever printserver
tries to get lp.cfg file entry . The entery in lpr.log is as follows
PRINTER :TFTP CONFIG FILE FETCH FROM 134.32.130.232 FAILED WITH TFTP
ERROR NO 2 "ACCESS VIOLATION"
What can be the cause of tftp loading failure , if someone can help me out.
Thanks in advance.
