2715.0. "ALL-IN-1 startup question" by LISVAX::RIBEIRO_N (NELSON RIBEIRO @XIP) Fri Jun 06 1997 09:42
Hi all,
i have been helping out a costumer who as recently implemented ALL-IN-1 at his
site, solving and workarounding some problems.
As i said in 2 notes earlier, if i put a call to the ALL-IN-1 startup file in
the SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM, ALL-IN-1 doesn't work. But if i call it from the system
account in DCL, it works fine.
Following te suggestion from Dave, i have created a file (let's call it
ALL-IN-1_STARTUP.COM) which has a wait command that followed by the call of the
ALL-IN-1 startup file. This new file is submitted to a batch queue from the
SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM, and according to the test it works fine this way.
The tests i made consisted on decresing the time of the wait command from 10
minutes til 30 seconds, and every time worked fine. I think that if i took the
wait command it would also work fine (i haven't tried that because it was
already late).
I would like for someone to explain me why this happens; why can 't i call the
ALL-IN-1 directly from the vms startup file? Besides this question, i have a
doubt: because the submit launches a new process, what kind of influence does
it have on the startup of the ALL-IN-1?
Can someone explain me this?
Thanks,
NElsonR.

| | Hi Nelson,

well, actually this depends really on the CPU (how fast) and what
layered products your customer has started before ALL-IN-1 startup.

Refer also to #519.8 and #915.9.

    E.g.:

For my account, the CoV, the startup of DECnet/OSI (really a huge
network) and UCX takes most of the time (approx. 30min 'til it's
    ready for starting ALL-IN-1)

BUT this isn't really a problem, is it ??? ;-)

    Cheers
    Charly
