Hello,
I have a customer problem where they sometimes receive messages from MRX
with the free-form-name in parenthesis (ALL-IN-1 V3.1 German):
____________________________________________________________________
Bad message where free-form-name is in parenthesis
From:       (yoshiko fujita)
1=ch@*RFC-822\fujita(a)leland.Stanford.EDU@5=inet@2=admin@ADMIN@BUWAL2
This gives the following Reply address:
To:  (yoshiko fujita)                     (
1=ch@*RFC-822\fujita(a)leland.Stanford.EDU@5=inet@2=admin@ADMIN@BUWAL2 )
The user will get with the above reply address a postmaster back:
Unrecognized recipient name, the name does not match any available
____________________________________________________________________
Sometimes the message is received correctly:
From:      yoshiko fujita
1=ch@*RFC-822\fujita(a)leland.Stanford.EDU@5=inet@2=admin@ADMIN@BUWAL2
This gives the following Reply address:
TO:  yoshiko fujita                       (
1=ch@*RFC-822\fujita(a)leland.Stanford.EDU@5=inet@2=admin@ADMIN@BUWAL2 )

Any hints/explanations why sometimes the message is received by ALL-IN-1 with
free-form-name in parenthesis and another time not?
Thanks and regards,
Manuela

| 2570.1 | Where are the parentheses being added? | IOSG::MARSHALL | Fri Mar 14 1997 16:59 | 21 | |
| Was the message sent with a free-form-name containing the parentheses? That is, at what point are the parentheses being added? ALL-IN-1 won't add parentheses to a free-form-name. If it is ALL-IN-1 that is adding the parentheses, then it is because it does not think that part of the address is a free-form-name, which again points to a problem further back along the chain. Also, parentheses in a free-form-name shouldn't affext the deliverability of a mail message. ALL-IN-1 has very clever logic ( Stuart Maurice) to pull the address apart in the correct way, and this should cope with the addresses you show as examples. I wonder if you're using TeamLinks? Some older versions of that didn't cope very well with extra parentheses, and that could be your problem. So two questions: - where are the parentheses being added to the free-form-name? - which product/component is incorrectly handling them? Scott | |||||
