Hi,
today I found -for me and CoV- really nasty problem within ALL-IN-1 V3.1 and
V3.2. Maybe this is the way it works, but this I can't believe ;-)
MOVING a mailmessage - doesn't matter if local or remote - from one
drawer to another one (e.g. from the V32_MAIN_drawer_on_Node_A to a
V31_MAIN_drawer_on_Node_B) works pretty fine. The mailmessage is really
moved, all attributes seem to be here (e.g. status=READ,type=MAIL).
The MOVE is done by using TeamLinks V2.7.
But now: User tries to EDIT it by using EM E (form EMC).
Message appears on the screen: 'You can't edit a READ message -
please file the text first' Right! Ok!
But then: User is clever and uses EDIT from the WP subsystem (form WP):
Bingo, (s)he can MODIFY it.
And when you now go back to the EM subsystem and do a Read
or a forward you don't forward the original message, this
means you can easily 'replace' mails. Waaaarrggghhhhh...
<<Modify-flag is yes...>>
Will be a good idea when WP will prevent this 'feature'.
Many thanks in advance for all your thoughts!
Cheers
Charly

I think you'll find that when the message is edited, the user name
underneath the From (if you read it) will have changed, although the
pretty name doesn't change. If not, then it certainly does change when
you *SEND* it, when the pretty name should change too.
I can't remember when we did this fix, but I think it was V3.1.
If not, then we missed a path somewhere!!!!

Hi Graham,
thank your very much for your reply. Yes, you'Re right, the name
is changing.
But this explanation doesn't solve the problem. It shouldn't be
possible to edit an original mail-message in any circumstances.
Then you could easily allow EM E, too.
So, the question now is, will a modification to WP E to
have the same checks as in EM E be enough, or is it better to
have a change in the MOVEing code, that the modify-flag is untouched,
e.g. = 'N'. And that you have to 'file' the message first, so that
the original mail-message isn't really touched.
What I also found (see .0) is the the date-received is 'blank', too.
IPMT time??
Many thanks again for your opinion.
Cheers
Charly

| 2493.3 | Sorry, but TTWIW! | IOSG::PYE | Graham - ALL-IN-1 Sorcerer's Apprentice | Thu Jan 30 1997 16:30 | 6 |
I'm afraid that this has been discussed numerous times in the past, and
it's been decided that this is the way ot works. We think that the name
change is enough to make sure that the message is recognised as a copy
of the original.
So, your IPMT would most likely be rejected.

Hi Graham,
ok, accepted. I'll inform CoV that's the way it works.
If they don't like this feature then they can customize WP E
by themselves.
Many thanks!
Cheers

Karl, CoV will love Exchange as the ability to modify mail messages with no date stamp change or name change is standard - a feature inherited from MS Mail. Dave | |||||
