I'm new to this file, and am glad to have found it!

There is also a show on FOX TV called X-files, regarding two FBI
investigators who encounter Alien abductions, Out of Body experiences,
Reincarnations, etc, that is good. Friday nights at 9:00 in the Boston
    area.

| | I was rather put off the X-files by one recent episode. It was the one
where they are all dying from CJD thanks to their cannibalism.
The female, who is supposed to be a pathologist, does a post mortem on
the body of a woman and we cut to her sitting at a microscope which is
on a table beside the body. She puts the slide into the microscope and
    diagnoses CJD.
First point. If you want a piece of tissue from the brain you have to
remove the top of the skull. The body's head was visible and unmarked.
Second point. Once you have removed the tissue it takes you about 24
hours to process it into a slide.
Third point. The pathologist does not look at slides in the postmortem
room. They generally do that in their office.
I should point out that I was sitting next to a pathologist who was
    giggling at all the mistakes.
    Jamie.

| 2109.7 | What does the pathologist think of Patricia Cornwell's books? | BUNKA::LEMEN |  | Thu Aug 01 1996 09:10 | 7 |
| | Jamie,
Have you and Harry read any of the mysteries by Patricia Cornwell? The main
character, Kay Scarpacci, is a pathologist for the city of Richmond, Virginia,
and I'm always curious as to how realistic and accurate the morgue scenes are.

It is difficult to get to watch a hospital drama on TV with Harry in
the same room. Fortunately he is not the type to bring his work home
with him. Well there was one weekend years ago when there was a bucket
of bits lying in the spare bedroom until the Monday morning.
So I doubt if he would willingly read about a pathologist. I'll ask him
    when I get home.
    Jamie.
