| | Two conferences have quite a bit of discussion on QM. One is the
Physics conference at DECWET::Physics. Hit <select> (KP7 from
character cell notes) to add it to your notebook. (Next note for
    the other conference).

| | Re .0, .2:

To find the references to quantum mechanics in the ATSE::Philosophy
conference, enter dir/key=quantum. And to save you some time, I've done so
    myself. The relevant topics are:

    	42, 59, 85, 165, 196, 221, 254

    I recommend 42 and 221 in particular. 221 includes a review of
"Quantum Reality" by Nick Herbert. I highly recommend this book as an
introduction to the subject. If you're a mathephobe, it's relatively
    math-free, too.

See also "The Emperor's New Mind" by Roger Penrose. This has a lucid
discussion of quantum mechanics and its philosophical questions, along
with a lot of other interesting topics relating to mind and cosmology.
(It's reviewed and discussed in topic 254 of the Philosophy
    conference.)

If you're interested in the Quantum Mechanical Body, check out "Quantum
Healing" by Deepak Chopra, M.D., or also "Perfect Health" by the same
author. Both are bestsellers and are excellent.

...and a second vote for Roger Penrose's book too...

Great quote, Bill ! Feynman's perspective on physics is
unorthodox, but very refreshing at times.

| 1646.8 | Try Richard P. Feynman's "Q.E.D" | TYFYS::SLATER | As we see ourselves, so do we become. | Fri Mar 20 1992 11:53 | 21 |
| | Perhaps one of the shortest and best books on Quantum Physics was
written by the late Richard P. Feynman, entitled "Q.E.D. - The Strange
Theory of Light and Matter". It's very readable, and very honest.

Below is an excerpt (Page 9 - Q.E.D.)

" What I am going to tell you about is what we teach our physics
students in the third or fourth year of graduate school - and you think
I'm going to explain it to you so you can understand it? No, you're not
going to be able to understand it. Why, then, am I going to bother you
with all this? Why are you going to sit here all this time, when you
won't be able to understand what I am going to say? It is my task to
convince you *not* to turn away because you don't understand it. You
see, my physics students don't understand it either. That is because
*I* don't understand it. Nobody does."

    Enjoy!

| 1646.9 | Had to set those TYPOS Write! | TYFYS::SLATER | As we see ourselves, so do we become. | Fri Mar 20 1992 12:03 | 13 |
| | Re: .6 & .8

I had a few typos in my original note (because it was late at night)
and since I did it on my PC at home, I couldn't upload it back until
this morning. In any case, since Feynman was my favorite 20th century
scientist, out of respect to his memory and quest for the truth, I
wanted to set the typos that were in his quote to read correctly.

    Thanks for understanding.

Thanks all for the input!! That will give us both enough to "chew on"
    for a while!! :-)

If I need more I know where to come and ask!

    Thanks again,
