                        Although unusual it is not uncommon to find quartz
    crystals that are very clear (thoes from the Herkimer N.Y. area are
    well known for thier clarity,precise shape and small size). I know of
    a few ways to test quartz vs. glass. The one I use the most is touch;
    if upon initial contact the crystal feels cool it is probably quartz
    or at least not glass. If upon initial contact the crystal feels warm
    it is most likely glass or at least not a stone.

                     I know very little about native american history so
    I can't comment on your pendants symbolism.

                     As far as purifying stones I do what feels right at
    the time. I use different methods -breath, free running (stream,river)
    water, smuging, salt crystals, sea water, sunlight/moonlight,thought
    form affirmations or a combination of the above. The idea here is that
    whatever makes YOU feel right is what is needed.

                               Later,
                               Mark

| 1269.2 | Sea salt works well | ESCROW::COCHRANE | Rack and Rune | Tue Jun 05 1990 12:58 | 15 |
| | I use course sea salt crystals which I keep in a fairly deep box,
    as I cleanse runes as well as stones regularly. Also sunlight
    and moonlight. There are also ways to annoint and program
    crystals to impart them with your energy. A good place to
    start would be checking out a couple of crystal books at
    your local metaphysical store. Find one that gives good basic
    descriptions of common stones and their powers.

    As far as the Native American symbolism, I don't know much about
    that, but I might have a book a home I can check. I'll see if I
    can look it up tonight.

    Enjoy!  It's a magical path!

| | There happens to be another note on crystals (actually, there is
    more than one.) That one was 1200 notes ago (69.) You may wish
    to look there for more information.

| | Hi, I have the exact eagle claw, the only difference is the crystal is
    round. When I wear it, I feel real good, the energy it puts off is
    unblievable. Yes $30.00 is a bit much, I got mine last year for
    $19.00. If you keep finding your self drawn to it, I would purchase it.

| | Eagles are very sacred to Native Americans. You might want to
check the Native American notesfile. If they don't have a
topic on it, you might want to request the informtion. The
notesfile is on GENRAL::NATIVE_AMERICANS.
Be careful how you cleanse the pendant. I'm not sure how
pewter will react with salt. Might want to cleanse it by
smudging it (a Native American way). Many of the metaphysical
bookstores sell smudging materials. If you're in this area
(around Route 128 in Mass) you might want to go over to
Native Spirit in Sudbury. They have books, supplies, stones,
and Native American items.

| | "The Medicine Cards" - which cost about $26.95 and can be found in
    most new-age and large book stores is a wealth of knowledge on how
    the Native Americans interpret animal wisdom/power and how we can
    learn from them. I don't have my cards and book (the book that comes
    with the cards is BEAUTIFUL!) with me today at work so I'm unable to
    type in this file the significance of eagle.

    The card and a special file on Eagles can be found in the Native
    American Notes file mentioned by Joanne.
