I was reading about somebody's dream in an elevator, which reminded
me of this dream that I will have once in a while.

The setting is not always the same, but the concept is. I get in
the elevator, and push the button to go up. The elevator never stops
on that floor, or ever. I never know what to do, it keeps going
up. A few times it shot out of the roof.

What I remember is not what happens after it hits the roof, but
that it never stops on the floor I want, and most importantly it
keeps going up and ignoring that I pushed the button to stop on
    a floor.

Can you figure out what this means?
Also, do elevators mean anything in dreams?

| I BELIEVE THAT ONLY YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN ULTIMATELY DECIPHER
YOUR OWN DREAMS AS THE A GIVEN TO YOU IN SYMBOLS WHICH ARE RELEVANT
TO YOURSELF; YOU WON'T FIND ANY PRIMITIVES HAVING DREAMS OF RIDING
    IN ELEVATORS.

    HOWEVER, I'LL TAKE A SHOT.

AN ELEVATOR COULD EASILY BE SEEN AS A VEHICLE OF CONCIOUSNESS RAISING.
YOUR DESIRE IS TO RAISE IT, BUT YOU SET A LIMIT THAT IS WAY BELOW
THE POTENTIAL. EVEN THOUGH YOU BEEN EXPOSED TO LOFTIER HEIGHTS,
YOU STILL FOCUS ON THE TARGET FLOOR; YOU CLING TO THE CONCEPT OF THE
PRESET LIMITATIONS. YOU DON'T MENTION FEAR IN THE RIDE, SO I WOULD
GUESS PERHAPS IT COULD MEAN A DONIMANCE OF MINDSET.

IN ANY CASE, I BELIEVE EVERYTHING IN LIFE HAS A SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE.
THEY ARE MESSAGES FOR OUR GROWTH. THEY COME TO US AS SYMBOLS FOR
INTERPRETATION; SUCH AS, WORDS IN LANGUAGE ARE SYMBOLS FOR CONCEPTS,
SO ARE IMAGES WE ENCOUNTER IN DREAMS AND LIFE. THE MESSAGES KEEP
COMING IN VARIOUS WAYS UNTIL WE UNDERSTAND.

I was going to offer the same interpretation as in .1, but I agree that
the dreamer is the only one qualified to truly interpret the dream. In
order for an outside interpreter to come close they would have to have
a pretty good understanding of your current life situation, if not also
a history of how you handled similar situations. Of course, if this
interpretation clicks, then the dream is as good as interpreted - you
have brought the heretofore unconscious message into consciousness. I
believe that some dreams if remembered for long periods of time can be
again interpreted to provide insight into what will, at that later
date, be current life situations. In note 1043.13 M.-L. von Franz
explains how sometimes dreams provide symbols that can represent the
pattern of spirituality and psychic growth of an entire lifetime.

I used to have common elevator dreams. The elevator would be falling
out of control and there would be a rush of fear as I sensed impending
doom. Then perhaps I would wake up. In retrospect, it simply seemed
(the dream) to be a mechanism to work out my fear of that situation
which was unresolved in the waking state.

| It could also mean Success. Going straight to the top. Without
stopping. Maybe on a fast track. Wanting to stop off along the
way and see your progress. Savor it.

    Just a thought.
