Runes are markers, either sticks or rocks, with markings on them
[or "runes" can refer to the markings themselves, whether on sticks
or rocks] that are cast as a form of divination. [Well, little
rocks... more like pebbles.] The rune characters are sometimes
used esoterically as a form of cipher.
