| | Darling is a decent starter, I'm not sure that he has the
capabilities to be an "ace", but he'd be a good addition to the
staff. The second player in this deal makes the difference...
Think the Met's would toss in Dave Magaden? He'd be a very good
3rd base prospect....not to mention the guy can hit....I'd
    do that deal...

    Roberto Kelly's numbers last year: .302, 9 HR, 48 RBI, 35 SB. He's
also very good defensively. Kelly would be an excellent addition to
the Mets, although my gut reaction is that the Yankees would be very
    reluctant to part with him.

| | Darling would be the pitcher most likely to go. Ojeda is older so there
won't be as much interest in him.

Darling has always had a knock against him. But his record speaks for
itself. I happen to be a big Gooden fan; given a random game I would
rather see Gooden start than Darling. Given a one game situation I'm
not so sure. Darling blew it in game 7 of th 1988 NLCS (actually it was
more the Mets infield that blew it) but he really pitched incredibly
    well in the '86 playoffs.

Why not Darling for Kelly even up????

Add Mike Marshall and you still need to add something......

After the late season performance by Roberto, the Yanks wouldn't let

Wouldn't touch it. Not that I don't want Darling on my staff.
I do. But I won't give up Kelly right now. Kelly is a young
emerging ballplayer who fills a huge gap - there is no one
I want playing CF on the Yankee roster right now other
than Roberto. Darling has had his career abruptly level
off, and whether he can improve from here is questionable.
If the Mets feel they need a CF, I'd move McReynolds there.
Then the Yanks can trade Hall+ for Darling and the Mets
can put Hall in left where he doesn't do too much damage.
Mets fans probably won't like that one (depending on the
plus) but I am very disinterested in trading away Kelly.

| | Darryl Strawberry has said that he won't name names, but alot of guys
on this year's Mets team need to grow up. He sees no reason why the
Mets didn't win the division this year. He said that as far as next
year goes, money isn't that big of a motivation. He said that no
matter how much NY offers him, unless they get a good leadoff hitter
(seems he would like to team up with Vince Coleman), he's history.
Word is that he'll only play in Dodger or Met blue.

| | People may not like the source, but the Strawman is right. The Mets had
two decent leadoff hitters, couldn't make up their mind, so they traded
both of them ... real smart. You better believe that Vince Coleman will
insure a few more fastballs for Darryl and Co.

As for moving, it might be the right move. I'm really worrried that his
good friend Eric Davis didn't, and between that green cement in
Riverfront, and Marge Schott (ugh), he'll never really reach his max.

And for some reason, I think that the Mets management is in a slump.

head...before Strawberry claims those around him should grow up, he
ought to look in the mirror, read the papers and watch the sports news
and notice what a big baby he is himself.

Surprises me that he won't name names. In the past, he's thrown
punches at his teammates and then huffed off in a tantrum.

Poor, poor Darryl. LA deserves him.

Congrats to the Bucs on their first division title since the 'We
Are Family' days of '79. Most everyone expected them to finish behind
the METS, but they came through. Since they beat us, I'll be pulling
for them to beat the DReds.

In re to Straw, if I were him, I'd let my bat do the talking.
He is the one batter that most opposing managers and pitchers do NOT
want to beat them and you would probably love to have him in the lineup
with Bonds and Bonilla dan'l. Without him, what will the NY press
do to generate controversy? NY's choice is to either sign him and
keep those 30+ hr's and 100+ ribbys, or let him go and also lose
McReynolds, since he's also a free agent. Granted he's had problems
in the past, but he's admitted to having a problem with alcohol and
sought treatment. That is conveinently forgotten when it comes to
Straw. I'd like him to stay in NY, controversy and all. The METS
wouldn't be nowhere near the same team without him.
