| Giant trade in the NHL.
Doug Gilmour is finally leaving Toronto to go where he was rumoured
to go as far back as November; NJ.
He's going there along w/ Dave Ellett.
The Leafs in return will acquire the 'rights' to the Devils 1st round
pick 2 drafts ago, Alyn McCauley (still unsigned), Jason Smith, Steve
Sullivan and a conditional pick.

| Andy,
MacAuley was the Devils fourth round pick two years ago. A steal!!!
The Devils were unable to sign him as they were offering fourth round
money and he wanted first round money. MacAuley had a great rookie
season as a junior but his second year was a major disappointment.
He was sick or injured most of the year. That's the year that the
Devils drafted him. Last year, I believe that he was named CHL player of
the year. This year he's having an outstanding season with the Ottawa
67's. His coach recently said that MacAuley is ready to step right
into the NHL. I haven't heard Brian Kilrea say that too often about
one of his players.
The trick now will be for the Leafs to sign MacAuley before the draft.
By moving Gilmour, they should have some money in their budget to give
him the rookie max. He definitely is a "blue chipper".

It's a go - Tell the wife, Dave.
I guess Gilmour will be smiling if the Devils win the Cup. Could he
replace Claude F. Lemieux as the missing ingredient the Dev's need
to go all the way again????
The best teams in the East now seem to be BUF, NJ, FLA - Yuck!
(while PHL,NYR,PIT try to hang on)

I was currious if the Leafs also gave a 1999 3rd round
draft pick to Jersy as well as Gilmour and Dave E.

Apparently, that pick is the one the Devils gave Toronto for
Dave Andreychuck. Not confirmed. GET THAT DAVE? NOT...CONFIRMED!!!!
BTW, Dave, after I put the note in yesterday, Ray did mention to
me that McCauley was NOT a 1st rounder but a 3rd or 4th. I forgot to
put it in before Bernie did; hopefully you didn't mention that part
to the wife. :*)
Finally, Pete (Papa Raider), had this to say about the trade where
Toronto gets '3 YOUNG players': "I bet'ya that the ushers at MLG are
happy!". ;*)

Mtl send Jablonski to Phoenix for nobody in particular (tba)
LA send Olzyck(sp?) to Pitts for Glen Murray
Leafs sent Muller to the Panthers for some unknown.
Oilers sent Jeff Norton to TB for Drew Bannister.
