I have been dealing with the Doberman Rescue Legue for quite
a number of years. I adopted 3 dogs from them over the years.
Last year lost my little red Doby Honey, she was almost 18 years
old. This left the six year old male Buddy very lonely. I went
and adopted a beautiful one year old female named Peyton.
I have nothing but good things to say about them. They screen
the people who want to adopt the dogs and try to match them
with the right temperament. Also when you get a dog there they
are all fixed, have all there shots and are heartworm tested.
the donation fee is about $ 125.00

| Thought I'd comment on my own inquiry, now that I have some info to
share.

Decided to make the trip to Lebanon, ME Saturday AM to meet Norma, who
founded NHDRL 25 years ago. The facility had approximately 20 dogs in
residence. Most will be adopted, and some will die there. Every dog
has a story. Some are cheerful, healthy, and welcome all visitors.
Some hate men, or women, or children. Some are sick. All are loved
and nurtured by Norma.
She (and Dave - base note) screens everyone interested in adoption for
suitability and dobe matching. Her screening has resulted in less than a
1% return rate.
Just during our visit, two dobes - nice dogs - were dropped off. A
fawn female came from ME. A red/rust male came from VT. 3 more were due
that PM from NY. The two owners were very upset to give their respective
dogs up but had life changes. As strong as Norma seems, and as often as
she sees this stuff, she still breaks down.
As one who WAS going to get a pup from a breeder, I can confidently say
that we will join the over 7,500 adoptions from this organization
during the 25 years since Norma started it. We may have seen "our
dobe" Saturday, or he/she may yet to be found. It will happen when we,
the dog, and Norma are "right" with the match.
First rate organization.
