| | Hi Andrea,

This "usually" results when a dog eats grass to purge their
digestive system. Does he have access to grass or any greenery
(including pine needles)? Does he chew on things he shouldn't,
    like wood, etc???

This is my humble two cents since I am not a vet........

    Andrea,

Our dog has been doing the same thing as you mentioned, usually twice
when it happens too. No other symptoms of illness.

I mentioned it to our vet yesterday and she suggested it may be an
acidic stomach. We feed our dog 1X/day at night when we get home from
work. The vet suggested feeding her a LITTLE food in the a.m. before
work so that she has something in her stomach for the day. When
Jasmine gets sick, it's usually in the morning or early afternoon on
    weekends.

We're going to try some food tomorrow a.m. and see how that goes.

| | Sounds like bile, which can be a result from a stomache irritation or an
empty stomache. I give my dogs their main feeding in the morning, and a
little bit in the evening to avoid it. Two of my three were routinely
doing that until I added the snack feeding. BTW, I subtracted the snack
amount from the total for the day, to avoid overfeeding.

| | Andrea,

As others have said, it sounds like it's bile. Is the dog only doing
this when he has an empty stomach? Feeding him may settle his stomach
    down.

Nikko does this in the morning on occasion. It only happens before he
eats and he feel better after. It's just a small amount that he
expels. Just teach him to run to the door or onto tile/linolium!

Yup, we've got one too....if she doesn't have food in her stomach, she
throws up...soo, we always keep rice cakes handy (yes she really does
love them) and first thing in the morning even before we go out she
get a rice cake, soon as we get home, if supper will be a little late,
if we're busy doing things (as opposed to her sleeping all day) and
anytime she gets restless and starts looking for food....

As an aside...I've had good luck doing TTouch ear work on her to
prevent some episodes, important as since her surgery,(for bloat) every
time she vomits, she risks her stomach coming un-attached.

It breaks my heart to see them go through this!

| | Taj is the dog with the glass stomach, seems like a lot of things make him
barf. From what everyone has said, it does sound like bile. He
usually does it in the morning before he's eaten. Both dogs get half
their food in the morning, and the rest at dinner time.

Fortunately, he does it either on the tile floor in the bathroom, or on
his own sleep mat (he's not picky). ;^(

Taj is a grass eater, and this summer I started feeding them parsley
from my garden, which both dogs liked, and it seemed to help Taj's
stomach problems. Recently, I started giving them a barley grass
tablet to compensate for the lack of parsley/other greens in their diet
    this winter.

Thanks for all the info...as always, much appreciated!

One of our dogs was like this too...stomach got too empty and same
problem. However, she is a very picky eater. We have food out for
her all the time and sometimes she just doesn't want to eat. She used
to throw up almost daily. Then we switched dog foods from a lamb and
rice food to a Fromms Performance dog food. This greatly reduced the
problem. It still happens occassionally, but probably more like once
a month rather than once a day. Now it could have been coincidence,
but I don't think so. So you might also want to take a look at the
food you're feeding the dog. It might not agree with him.
