    Hi,

I am getting a bit confuse on the support of 9GB hard disk.

Notes: 6446.12 mentioned that BA356-KC pedestal does not support 9GB
hard disk, DS-RZ40-VA. In Notes 6446.18, it ,mentioned that all
storageWorks shelf are FCC Class A except BA356-KC which is FCC Class
    B. I have check the SOC, almost all the BA356-XX are FCC Class B
    certified.

Can anyone able to tell me if DS-RZ40-VA supported on BA356-KC FCC
Class B certified ? How about the rest BA356-XX supported ?

How about DS-RZ1DB-VW (9GB Ultra SCSI Wide disk) ?

Why does the 9GB disk supported on the SW300/SW500/SW800 since the
cabinet uses the same shelf BA356-XX but not on pedestal ?

    Please advise.
    Thanks

| I believe that the issue is about FCC compliance of the pedestal
option; if a BA356 is inside an SW500/800, it meets the reauired
specs, whereas (currently) the pedestal does not.

| Chris states it correctly.... (even though he doesn't know all the
    details!) :-)

A DS-RZ40-VA does not meet class B requirements in the pedestal.

Cabinets such as the SW300/SW500/SW800 are class A. When we tested the
RZ40 in the cabinet configuration we met class A.

So the DS-RZ40-VA will NEVER ship legally with the BA356-Kx's.
(I used the term "NEVER" intentionally. Since the DS-RZ40-VA will
receive class A certification for CE mark, that's the CE mark it will
carry for its lifetime. For whatever reason, CE does not allow us to
change certification type from Class A to Class B, even though later
rev's of the SBB and pedestal will meet class B. At FRS time for the
DS-RZ40-VA, the modifications to the pedestal and SBB were not
available. The choice was ship (FRS) as Class A and live with Class A
forever, or wait until the modified parts were in production. The
choice was to go with Class A. Unless a new DS-RZ4xx-VA part number is
created, the 9Gb Narrow SBB will always be Class A. Only if the field
demands Class B for 9Gb will this happen.)

The DS-RZ1DB-VW (9Gb wide) WILL be (is?) class B. The pedestal
shipping today has the modifications and the DS-RZ1DB-VW does too!

    Hope that answers your questions....
